How I wish that the activity feed, could have dates and hours of when a chapter view or manga read is uploaded to the site... or let us navigate through with a search option... not the "weeks ago" thing that we already have...
I mean to use the activity feed (watched, or read or whatever) as an actual and accurate history...

when you hover over the "weeks ago" thing it shows you the exact date and time of the activity smh

  HOLY SH THANKS! but again, the infinite scroll (by clicking load more) to find something is not helping, nor the activity grid, where you can't click anywhere to see what you did x day... but MAYBE is hidden somehow, like this feature you mentioned...

Could you add shows and comics and novels that aren't Japanese to the site?

...There are non-Japanese entries, but there are no western entries. The site only permits Japanese, Chinese, South Korean and Taiwanese entries. And it has been made clear time and time again the scope won't change.

On iOS I use MyAniList and find it awesome as app. Why don’t you work together with one of these apps to make them official instead of starting a new one?

  Me too mee tooo. I got the app first and then realized it pulls its “search engine/ archives ” from a site. Now it’s having issues and I’m scared for the future of MyAniList. So much time/binging/ updating / organizing put in. I know it syncs everything. It’s very convenient , great interface and if you’re not an anime hoarder(which I am at the moment) it can be a very neat list. It’s my first time using the site so it could very much be the same thing. Apologies for my ignorance

As someone who tries to contribute to entries, it would be great to see improvements to the submission system. Currently the communication around submissions is limited, for example mods just make changes to your submission and leave a comment within the submission or as a status update on your profile - would be nice to have an actual message system since I don't love having undeletable mod comments mixed in to my personal anime/manga updates forever. I also often end up struggling to figure out how to interpret some of the submission guidelines - more specific rules and/or maybe programming some of the requirements/helptext into the submission pages would be really helpful!

Yeah, have a little comment box under the submission notes, so you can either discuss the reasoning behind a rejected submission thoroughly and directly, explain the minor things that needed tweaking in a partially accepted one or just to say thanks for accepting it...~
Hell, could be handy to have that even before it's reviewed if you accidently forgot sources so you don't have to make a double submission...~

For some reason if you’re recording that you read multiple chapters at once it’s being tracked as entering a single chapter, I could take the time to spam the +1 button for each individual chapter for like 40-50 chapters and apparently they’re not being counted.

For several years I’ve kept track of how many chapters I read separately in my notes app on my phone and there’s a 1600+ chapter disparity between what I’ve actually read this year and what’s being reflected on my account. Last year’s count was about 1350 chapters short and 2022 was about 1200 chapters short.

Do the +1 and then go into the list editor to jump to the most recent one you read, then the activity'll display all the chapters you read in that session.

Are these manga you started one year but continued/finished in a later year? The chapters read on the read year chart only takes into account the start date, as there's nothing that tracks the exact dates certain chapters were read aside from the start/finish dates. (and the "always" merge time, especially, screws over attempts to use activities to track what date/year certain chapters were read)

Yeah to be honest the whole point of having a system theme option is to avoid having to manually change themes. So not setting it as default is kinda... strange...~

can we add an actual section to every entry for "demographic" instead of it being a tag? i think it would be cool to see what percentage of my shows are shonen, shojo, seinen, and josei. even if it doesnt become a stat, i just think it'd be cool of that info was accessible or even required to be added to every entry on the site

...Doubt it. If a series doesn't have a manga then they can't fill that out. And also non-Japanese entries probably wouldn't be able to have it filled out either...~

  i think an anime without a manga would still have a demographic and i bet koren and chinese entries have the same demographics but with different names like how they have them listed as mahwa and manhua respectively

For the last bullet point, I would like to suggest to have the anime or manga title hidden until the mouse is hovering over the cover then the anime or manga title will appear. I’m not a huge fan of the solid gray shadow behind the anime or manga title. Have it a bit more transparent and have the ability to change the gray shadow and match it to the rest of the colour scheme.

I would like to see an Editorials section added. Writing reviews is obviously the main focus of the site, but it would also be nice to write and post OTHER kinds of long-form content.

So, platformed, long-form content about general trends and tropes or whatever that apply to a lot of anime, or something like that? Like some of the pieces they have on ANN (like the thing about long premieres they wrote a couple weeks into the autumn season last year) but written by the community?
That sounds really cool, though I wonder how many people would use it...~

When browsing we have a Not Yet Aired section that can be filtered by the year, but I think it would also be nice to include a filter that shows what series that have been announced for the given year that doesn't have a season/release date yet. I hope that made sense XD

What exactly do you mean with that? You can already microblog using the site's social features (activity posts, comments & reviews, by extension), and it's fine to share a link to your personal blog from time to time, but this is not a site dedicated to blogging?

    AniList has to choose between sticking to its core as a anime/manga discussion website, vs. an otaku Facebook. Epsiode/chapter updates, and reviews are the primary features, a dedicated blog system would distract from them, and tilt it towards the latter kind of site.

i'd personally throw in the idea of unlisted reviews rather than editorials as a suggestion for diverse long-form content to be supported.

currently, the only ways to publish anything longer than 10k characters here is through forum posts or reviews, both of which are inherently platformed to a greater extent than status posts. if you're wanting to write a piece on, say, a particular episode or thematic element of a series, you're either ineligible to submit it as a review because of the narrow scope, or you relegate your work to a forum post or comment where it's not as neatly catalogued and accessible within your profile as a review. of course, there's also the standards of quality which come with the privilege of platforming something — which most people adhere to if they're going through the effort of writing something more than 10k characters, but i think there's justifiable room for self-expression that isn't as stringently enforced aside from the usual no-go's like malicious misinformation, offensive content, so on and so forth.

unlisted reviews would help bridge the gap between being forced to truncate pieces to fit the 10k character limit, having a space on the site to write long-form, and enjoying that ability without having to broadcast those efforts to the extent that platformed standards are expected. there's always the argument of "just spin up a Medium/Substack/Tumblr," not to mention that this is likely a niche problem for most users (maybe this is just me ranting because i'm tired of having to split my activity comments into two, lol). but i think there's value to be had in having a "blog-like" space to write that isn't publicized yet remains natively accessible here on AL. you can always just make a status post linking to such if you want people to read it.
