Am I the only one who thinks that Sukuna's facial design looks a little bit odd compared to the manga?

But besides that, this episode was animated incredibly well, they did justice to Megumi vs Toji and Sukuna vs Jogo.

Manga readers know that next episode will be as good as this ep, arguably even better.

They def changed his face/hair design a little bit, I liked how it looked in ep 15, but this episode the linework/outline seemed thinner on everyone, if that makes sense. I think his facial markings were lighter too

when I saw Megumi vs. Toji fight scene ohhhh but then Toji killed himself and i screamed so loud my mom came i asked if sth happened crying (yes momma, daddy toji killed himself).
and the family of Geto - did i heared Aizen's va?! OMGGG
don't forget fight Jogo vs. Sukuna - tbh it's for me love-hate relationship like... the idea of this is phenomenal, but drawings are little bit off? yall I don't fucking know about this animation stuff and more, I am not an expert and I can't even describe this good, cuz english isn't my first language, but dang... I think Kaito would desceibe it better ^_^

btw. smol offtopic and sorrey! i got today new 16th volume of jjk manga in my language, todays episode was 16 hihi and in 7 days I have birthday (coincidence? i dont think so hihi)

I saw this coming with how they're handling this season. Different episode directors are given full freedom to change the animation style however they want, and the bad schedule will likely result in a chaotic sakuga mess (which I love, but I know some people don't) .. The direction was top-notch. While there might be some animation errors, this episode was just phenomenal. You should check out the fight scene in Mob Psycho 100 Season 2, Episode 11 (directed by The Miso)

This episode looked stupid good. Holy moly, I frankly did not expect it to look this good even with Miso attached. An insane spectacle I had no way of predicting in these production circumstances, but we got it. Itsuki Tsuchigami’s storyboards, extremely competent animators like Nakaya Onsen and the ability to finish the key animation adequately (and not mess it up in the 2nd KA/douga stage) created magic. This is the best looking episode in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen.

My issues with this episode are mostly… the story, I guess. Shibuya as a story just doesn’t grab me. It started really intriguing with Gojo getting sealed but then we had a sluggish pacing for quite a bit and now this climatic highlight just doesn’t hit that hard - Jogo vs Sukuna is fun but it hits an abrupt end and I can’t help but somehow feel myself wondering, “is that it?”. I think the problem is that we just don’t have a particularly strong build-up here, there is no overlying intensity over the last span of episodes because the idea of having to save Gojo became more vague - Yes, Gojo needs to be saved but where is the hurry? What exactly happens when Gojo is not saved in x amount of time? What are the villains trying to do? Where is the necessity of stopping them here and now? I KNOW that this has been established right at the episode after Gojo got sealed, but I feel like for an arc which tries to be a ticking timebomb it didn’t feel like a time bomb, but more like a series of individual fights with strong opponents but that’s kinda it. It’s a bit of a combination of inconsistent direction but also the script just not being good enough, personally. Sukuna vs Jogo could’ve been the bomb finally going off if we had that build up but it felt like such an individual fight too. A very crazy one of course, and I repeat myself, I think it looked stupid good but it still didn’t reach the climatic satisfaction I hoped for (it was a pretty busy episode too with a bunch of different plot threads, some I didn’t care at all for) and I think that’s because the arc as a whole is weirdly structured.

I did like how Toji is getting a bit of consciousness back though, but man, still no proper conversation between him and Megumi. And now he’s gone. But I guess the lack of communication is very consistent throughout their entire relationship.

Man, the Megumi vs Toji and Sukuna vs Jogo was mindblowing! I feel kinda bad for Jogo, the dude fought Gojo twice and now lost to Sukuna, he fought literally the strongest characters in the series.

It's an animation philosophy of prioritising movement over detailed drawings (notice how little cuts in this ep have shadows), it's a very different aesthetic then we normally get. That doesn't mean the drawings are bad ofc, there is just a different approach to how they are drawn. Whether you like it or not is ofc a matter of taste, I loved it personally and it's nice that it had an impact on you at least.

For me this fight was never meant to be the biggest and most important fight. It's always been a display to Sukuna's character and strength as well as being visually beautiful (it's also got the some of the best art in the manga). There were some nice parallels between Sukuna and Gojo where Sukuna praises Jogo for his strength while Gojo calls him weak which builds anticipation for the inevitable sukuna vs gojo fight. As for the climactic fight of the arc, don't worry it's coming soon.

I do think the story claim is true but yeah this never really delivered TOO much compared to the upcoming climax or even stuff before in the manga

However this was probably my fav episode of the series and maybe of this entire year just due to the fact that the animation, sound choices, fight sequences, etc was SO good and I like to look past the flaw of pacing because jesus christ both fights had me at the edge of my seat the whole time

which is one of my problems with shounen: the majority of us dont want dragged out, multiple paused fights that last episodes. we want fights with pure destruction and amazing fighting sequences like what we saw in this episode. Gave me hella Mob Psycho Vibes and i loved it

Yeah. I really liked the liberties Hidden Inventory took as a an adaptation but Shibuya just feels to dragged out. I will maybe check out the manga someday, I can see this arc working better in terms of pacing in written form but the anime doesn't catch me. Im looking forward to the actual climax but I'm unsure if it can redeem the arc as a whole.

Fair lol, tbh this episode really might be a visual all timer for me (sound direction is strong as well indeed) I really really like it in a lot of ways but it didn't grab me sadly in the ways I hoped for. F/SF was probably the most recent instance where something really was truly hype for me.

Exactly my thoughts. I would also add that many things themselves dont exactly make sense either. Sukuna is potrayed as an edge lord who kills "just because"... A sorry excuse for Gilgamesh if I am being honest, with dialouge that is supposed to be "deep" for some reason with addition to one fight after another.
Personally except for Toji I found the majority of the exchanges subpar at best. Not to mention situations that could be avoided easily become to common... There are special grades everywhere, there is a guy who doesnt want to die(just say so and leave for example)
Toji imo could have been used as a trump card but I guess the author wanted to show "deaths" just because...
HOWEVER I applaud mappa because I enjoyed it in the anime while I really disliked it in the manga. These animators really need justice...

I do agree with your opinion on Sukuna to an extent but he has undeniable charisma still, so I am willing to forgive that there isn't that much character writing for him there. I think this season so far showcases the highs (also narratively highs like Hidden Inventory's finale) and lows of the JJK writing (e.g character writing) very extensively so far, season 1 was more even and consistent.
