Evan call OST with Milet and aninari ed was just too amazing. Love the animation approach the director took with this series, its really a pleasant watch although 1 and a half hour was bit much at once. Honestly i wish Violet evergarden took the same approach instead of a grandiose one. I had bought the first volume but never got around it so i'm very much looking forward to this show for 2 seasons to come.

Are we counting this on here as 1 episode or 4? I know it premiered on TV as a singular episode, which would lead me to believe Anilist would count it as 1, but it got separated as 4 on Crunchyroll. Just curious.

The TV premiere was just the first 4 episodes stitched together, similar to Kaguya S3 where the final 2 episodes aired as one, but were separate everywhere else.
Saitou Keiichirou, the director of the anime, refers to next week's episode as episode 5.

Holy shit it's beautiful. I had high expectations for this, but this is the definition of kino. It's been a while since I've been moved by an anime, but this one does that in just 1 episode like it's no big deal. Absolute cinema.

This series really works well as an anime, it's beautifully animated, and I hope they keep up the good work for the next episodes. I'm not that far into the manga, but I'll catch up now that these first episodes rekindled my interest

I'm gonna be honest, it took me a while to get into the series because the first episode / first few chapters actually blew me away with the feels, but there's a certain point in the series that completely sold me on this and got me really excited to keep up with the manga. Not gonna spoil it, but just know it's not gonna be just slice of life forever
my expectations were blown away. the vibe is captured perfectly, the vas fit their respective characters really well the the songs are very good

As expected it looked absolutely stunning, but even more so it surprised me with how well it actually grabbed me emotionally by showing a melancholic display of time passing and how to look back on it. We don’t spend a lot of time with the cast but it is well shown how they mature and how they look back at their adventures with nostalgia. Frieren regretting too late that she hasn’t spent more time with Himmel to get him know better was so sweet too. I really don’t know how long this show will be able to hook me. This episode was already a strong story on its own, so I'm curious how it will continue and if it can maintain my interest. I also like both the OP and ED. ED visuals are very interesting, but the OP song is a bit more catchy. And what a title card for an OP. I frankly don’t mind at all that it’s from Yoasobi.

Watched the first episode and it was fantastic, madhouse never disappoints, I am curious how many episodes this will have though, is it 24 or 12 because they’ve just released 4 at once which as far as I know is a first for an anime to release 4 episodes at once
There will be 24 eps in total in one go (no split cour for once). Not sure if the special counts as one episode or as 4 episodes, I'd have to check the airing details on the twitter page. It's rather amazing we are getting 24 weeks of this tho without a break.
On topic: first "4" episodes were legit amazing. Can't wait how they'll adapt the rest. Also pretty good pacing consistency in the first 4 eps

This makes me worried. I was purposely avoiding the manga because I don't want to consume things that I know will take me to a bad place mentally. Given all the hype I decided to watch the first episode and it just grabbed me. After four episodes it did make me feel a bit sad, but it is thankfully nothing I can't handle. I am praying it doesn't get heavier.
It’s not that it gets sadder, it’s that it gets more fulfilling in its plot and actually gets a lot more nuance and substance
im not fully caught up, but i would like to say that for the most part this series is a pretty slow burn. they have some fights but even to where i am, on ch 75, its felt pretty much the same. there was one moment pretty early on that the anime may get to that was pretty exciting but then it kinda slows down again. where i am i like it and i think itll pick up again soon(?) but if you dont like the way these first 4 episodes are i wouldnt exactly stick around too closely imo because idk if youd think that wait was worth it. idk if anyone will disagree. i like these characters but it is primarily them walking and doing mini fights. its primarily about these characters interpersonal connections its fairly slow
Frieren kind of suffers after the first few 5 to 6 volumes in a way in my opinion. Still its mostly consistent in quality but the first few volumes definitly were the best in the series.
However those problems will mostly get resolved with the anime as they are more to do with the tone and expression, in short artistic stuff and atmosphere not matching the narrative or the scene mostly. So yeah Considering how good of a job madhouse is doing, its bound to be one of the greats tbh
I have mixed feelings about both the anime and the manga. I like all the idea that it presents, I just don't like how the author portrait them.
I feel like some scenes should have been portrayed in a different order and characters in fights explain a lot, and I mean A LOT every move they think and do to the enemy to the point that it gets ridiculous.
But alas the characters that have been presented are very interesting and currently the manga has a lot going on. It's going in the right direction.
I will make reviews for the other episodes as well I'm just not watching all of them in one day. I would say it's already different than OnK in the regard that OnK had an interesting prologue leading into a story later (which you may like or not) while Frieren debuted with an episode which already was really nice for me on its own. It does remind me a bit of Violet Evergarden in the sense that the direction worked pretty well for me to be invested in it emotionally. Violet Evergarden still is a journey kind of though, while Frieren really is already at the end of the Journey, which feels different (and makes me worry a bit if it can hook me for the entirety of the series).
It doesn't quite have the romantic undertone of Violet Evergarden, but there's definitely lots of self-discovery through meeting people and beautiful animation at key moments. It's relaxing, but emotionally potent when it wants to be
The show stays on the same type of nostalgic vibe until they reach a battle arc but thats in the second half and it's also pretty good just different. Even if you just seem to like the first half, i can't recommend you to try it enough. It's so good, and cute, and sad, i love it.
