For real, this was one of the best eps yet, even as a manga reader it was as good as reading it the first time if not better. I feel like it was executed perfectly, the gojo vs toji fight and the gunshot build up was soooo good, I was smiling from anticipation as I watched.

  True specially in gunshot scene the music build up was phenomenal how it ended in between just after gunshot was unexpected and shocking specially as an anime only

  Since when have we become so desensitized to violence where ripping someone open or blowing their brains out is not considered „brutal“?
  Not to mention the brutality here is amplified by the emotional impact it has compared to some of the senseless gore that you often see in media.
  Sure there‘s also Anime and Manga that are A LOT worse than this, but in the great scheme of things i‘d also call this pretty brutal.

After gojo got stabbed 1000 times, I just thought oh use the substitution jutsu. I think I should step away from my screen for the rest of the day now XD
but holy shit this episode.. so much happened. I wasn't sure how I was going to like this season but no I love it. and I don't know the rest of the story line at all so I'm ready (but also not) for anything!

so like... the guy was getting paid to prevent her from merging with Tengen... and he was there aiming his pistol or whatever at her as they are literally saying right in front of him that she doesn't want to merge and they will go back and she lives a happy life on her own... and then he just kills her anyway even though he would most likely still get paid since the merge wouldn't have occurred... i mean i know her death is necessary to build stuff up but also like... they didn't need to kill her... T-T

    i mean it's just an asumption that he coul've heard that but from my point of view toji wanted to get the job done as quickly as possible so i see no benifit in him waiting around the corner eavesdropping on them, hence he killed her.
    That's why her death is that much more tragic, she literally had no reason to die at this point QwQ

A lot happened this episode but thankfully the pacing didn’t feel rushed. What a rollercoaster. This episode opened and resolved something which I started to think about a few days ago - How Riko herself feels about the assimilation. It was odd how content she was with it before. But her short, but nonetheless effective backstory explained it well. I think the ocean metaphor is used because she’s watching other fish (= other people) pass by while she is stuck in place and is lonely. Because of how special she is.

One train of thought I also had was that Gojo and Geto might conflict regarding her, thinking back on their argument in episode 1. Geto seemed a bit utilitarian to me, prioritizing the greater good while Gojo just follows his own morals and does as he pleases. So I thought that maybe Geto would be against the assimilation, that was something which actually I got a bit more confident in once Gojo and Riko got close this episode, but as it turns out Geto also shares Gojo’s views here - Which makes Riko’s death the more impactful.

The direction overall felt choppy at times but also hits the right notes when it counts, such as the short montage of Gojo, Geto, Riko and Kuroi having fun or the highlight of this episode, Gojo vs Touji.

Both the moment Touji appeared and his final strike to kill Gojo were really well-placed and unexpected. They really pull it off very well to make Touji threatening.

The action animation was really good too. K1RO’s animation is pretty flashy (and very reminiscent of his previous JJK cut), but I thought Kosuke Kato’s animation was cool. I like how he conveys Toji’s speed and his exaggerated background animation is very cool as well.

Overall, a very good episode. A lot of different tones but they all hit well, and it also pulled some stuff I didn’t expect. Best episode so far, I’m curious how it will continue (and how Gojo survived, because this seems pretty lethal).

of course your opinion as always 11/10 you always write things I cannot even think about in english ^_^ now I know, why this scene in woods looked weird for me! I rewatched it like 5x amd couldn't think of it. the Okinawa animation was so beautiful and cool, very happy. fight with daddy was sth new for me to be honest. oh and animation of Blue technique of Gojo - that was sth new, like WOW (I need to reread chapters).

  Yeah, K1RO (he animated the blue technique) and Kato really went over the top this episode haha. Probably not what you're used to but I like crazy animation like this. And the current aesthetic of the show allows the animators to really be wild with their individual styles.

    I had to see manga - Gege didn't draw whole process of this technique. I was blown away seeing this animation and idea for it. in this season they have so many good and interesting ideas. I can't wait for mad Gojo and Shibuya arc ^_^

I love how Kato's animation fits perfectly with Touji's fighting style and personality. Gojo parts being portrayed as smooth and clean and Touji parts being rough and choppy. I was already excited about this from the trailer, it just adds another layer!
