Am I bugging or was the ymir backstory longer in the manga? It sure felt that way. But that might just be the effect of reading it monthly. Animation wise I think this episode was top notch, the artstyle mappa is going for fits perfectly and is way closer to the manga than wit ever was. I really loved the episode. I was expecting the eating scene to be censored but that doesn't make it any less sad, I wanna see anime onlys be traumatized like I was.

Edit: a little nitpicky here, but the motion blur from the shaky cam near the end was a little bit overdone. I get that they were going for immersion, which was a success because it really felt like my living room was rumbling. But the headache it gave me kinda distracted me from how incredible the art was.

This episode was AMAZING! Easily top 5 anime episodes of all time that I've watched. From the animation, to the music, to the effects to the AMAZING voice acting, it felt like MAPPA really upped their game and put a lot of it into this ep. AOT never fails to amaze and leave me shocked by how good it is.

The more I think about it, the more Eren reminds me of Lelouch. Someone who's become the entire world's enemy, taking on the weight of countless atrocities and complex systems of hatred. Embodying all the evil that's ever been committed over the course of this ancient conflict.

And with his defeat... perhaps the world can be made whole again.

Eren is really shaping up to be one of the most tragic heroes I’ve seen. I’m with him all the way. All of this can’t lead to nothing but a tragic finale. It won’t end well for Eren. It can’t.
