New Submission System & Manual

This is the initial release of the second version of the data management system and accompanying manual. The new system is significantly easier to use than the first version. The scope of the manual has also expanded greatly from the original and is the point of reference for all users and moderators.

• Additional sources have been added to the website and all media types can now make use of the field. The new sources are:

- Doujinshi
- Anime
- Novel
- Any works adapted from full novels caught in the Novel to Light Novel change (see fixed) will have to be manually corrected to the new Novel source.

• Two new opposite relations, 'Contains' and 'Compilation', for linking one-shots into anthology collections and vice versa have been added to the website.

- Example: Shuuden ni wa Kaeshimasu​

• Users can now track the status of their submissions in the new submissions tab of their profile.

• A locked toggle to restrict ability to add and favourite entries has been added to the website.

• Specifications for upcoming untitled or provisionally titled media added.

- Characters can now be imported from existing entries (Currently Data Mod only).

• Staff import will come at a later date.

• A tools section has been included in the manual.

• A guide to sourcing information has been included in the manual.

• A romanisation guide has been included in the manual.

• A title formatting guide has been included in the manual.

• A tags guide has been included in the manual.

• The Mod Tools have been included in the manual.

• A list of moderators has been included in the manual.

Fixed

• The Novel format is now correctly displayed as Light Novel throughout the website.

• Character relation will now set Character on the opposite relation.

• Summary relation will now set Parent on the opposite relation

• Side Story relation will now set Parent on the opposite relation.

Changed

• Creating Characters, Voice Actors, Staff, and adding Banners are now done through the sub-pages of the anime and manga forms rather than a standalone submission.

• The Novel source has been renamed to Light Novel

• Parent relation can no longer be set.

• The Adaptation relation has been changed so that it now has the opposite relation of Source, to make identifying the the source material easier.

- Example: Chihayafuru​

• Light novel to manga adaptations that previously incorrectly used the Alternative relation will now use Adaptation and Source, being treated the same way as anime adaptations etc.

- Example: Mushoku Tensei​

• Novels and Web Novels from any accepted country of origin are not eligible to be in the database and any existing entries that have been added over time have been or will be deleted. The only allowed novel type is Light Novel.

- Effect should be minimal as barely any users track Chinese or Korean web novels on this site, as much better alternatives are available. Professionally published manhua and manhwa are still allowed.

• The incorrect statement on the previous manual that extra chapters (such as certain prologues, epilogues and .5's) are not included in the total chapter count has been removed.

- Effect should be minimal as they were still being included where correct.

• Recommended minimum image dimensions for creating or cropping images have been changed.

• The doujinshi format has now been replaced by a licensed toggle to specify whether the work is doujinshi.

- Twins (Prominently features two siblings that were born at one birth.)
- Skeleton (Prominently features skeleton(s) as a character.)

• Renamed licensed label on submission forms from 'This media is licensed' to 'This media is self published (Doujin)' for clarity.
• Submission cards on user profiles now have direct links to the respective entry.
• Fixed issues with logging in on some older iOS devices

• Added GDPR Data Download option in Account Settings.
• Fixed stats update erroring on media without genres.
• Fixed Japanese media slugs breaking URL updates.
• Covers now display a pre-generated colour prior to loading in.

- Gender Neutral has been correctly renamed to Agender in line with description.

• New tags added:

- Language Barrier (A barrier to communication between people who are unable to speak a common language.)
- Tokusatsu (Prominently features the elements, which resemble Japanese special effects live-action shows)
- Advertisement (Produced in collaboration with some companies in order to promote their products, technologies etc.)
- Artificial Intelligence (Intelligent non-organic machines that work and react similarly to humans.)

Most of these changes have been implemented over the past fortnight. At the moment the rework of Anichart is the ongoing priority to allow easier development on features for both sites.

- Autobiographical (Real stories and anecdotes written by the author about their own life..)
- Golf (Centers around the sport of golf.)
- Omegaverse (An alternative universe that prominently features dynamics modeled after wolves in which there are alphas, betas, and omegas and heat cycles as well as impregnation, regardless of gender.)
- Werewolf (Prominently features a character who is a werewolf.)

In adding the Autobiographical tag to Anilist, many titles that were tagged with Biographical are now properly labeled with the new tag.

• The rule prohibiting like-spam has been removed now that users have the option to disable like notifications.
• The spoiler tag rule has been clarified in regards to progress activity replies, as spoilers should be expected.

- "All spoilers should be contained within spoiler tags (unless as a comment on watched/read activities, where relevant spoilers should be expected)."

• Have now fully switched to a new service for image handling, following the issues over the past few days, hopefully this reduces downtime.

• An addition has been made to site-wide rules for clarification only, as plagiarised reviews have always been deleted.

In an effort to help reduce abuse and spam more aggressive rate limiting has added for the creation of the following data types. If you go over the limit within a 1 minute interval you'll receive a 1 minute timeout from creating more of that data type.
- Text activity (3 per minute)
- Message activity (3 per minute)
- Activity replies (6 per minute)
- Likes (10 per minute)
- Forum comments (4 per minute)

These numbers aren't concrete yet and we'll be listening to user feedback to see if they need adjustments.

Just a small update today, little additions in preparation for new stats update, and some other small fixes:

• Fixed confirmation dialog not appearing when deleting forum threads, comments, & reviews.
• Fixed media preview card having incorrect background color section (https://anilist.co/forum/thread/7563)
• Staff now support alternative names (pen names)
• Studios have initial support for different company types (this isn't currently used anywhere but will likely be expanded upon and used within the new stats systems)

This update brings an overhaul of the user stats page and data!

The first change you will notice is that stats are now generated completely separately for your anime & manga lists.

Theres a lot of new stats we've added too so we won’t mention every single one but here are some of the most requested:

• Episodes watched
• Volumes Read
• Hours required to complete your anime planning list
• Chapters required to complete your manga planning list
• New format, status, country of origin distribution, release year, and start year graphs with count, hours watched/chapters read, and mean score

New cards for Genres, Tags, Voice Actors, Staff, & Studios

Along with the data we previously had (count, hours watched, and mean score) we’ve now added chapters read plus the anime, manga, and even characters (for voice actors) you’ve seen that made up the stats. These are ordered by the score you gave them too.

We’ve changed the requirements used to generate these stats which should hopefully give everyone a more fair amount each.

For example, we previously required you to have seen a staff member in at least 10 shows before we would generate your stats for that staff member. This resulted in users who had seen lots of shows ending up with massive amount of stats while users who had seen an average or low amount of shows having hardly any stats generated. We’ve now removed or massively lowered these requirements, instead limiting each type of stat to 30 data points.

New donator rewards

• $5+

- Increase your genre, tag, voice actor, staff, and studio stats from 30 to up to 100 cards
- Full stats update every 12 hours

• $10+

- Full stats update every 6 hours

• $20+

- Full stats update every 2 hours

Other changes:

• Added the initial site stats page, displaying a daily record how many users, anime, manga, characters, staff, and reviews we have.
• Added favourite counts to Staff, Character & Studio pages
• Added AniMoute to apps page
• Fixed activity history tooltip sometimes displaying behind other activity squares
• Fixed list side-nav displaying incorrect count on the All section button
• Minor style changes

\* At a later date we will be adding support for just stating the year (instead of full date) you started an anime/manga which should make this more useful

If you notice you don't have anything on your user stats pages yet head over to [settings](/settings/lists) and click the Update Stats button to trigger a manual update.

Changelog - 10/07/2019

• Previously we only used Count to get your top 30 stats, this lead to some stats being missed out which wasn't ideal. We've now changed to use a weighted combination of Watched Time/Chapters read, Count, and Mean Score which should provide better results*
• Removed the required minimum watch count (2) from Genre, Tags, Voice Actor, Studio, and Staff stat generation*
• Added Mean score back to user stat preview cards. Episodes watched & volumes read will still be displayed if mean score or another stat is 0.
• Favourite counts on Character, Staff, and Studio pages now rounded to the nearest hundred instead of thousand.
• Renamed Start Year graph to Watched/Read Year
• Other minor fixes

Nothing super exciting today but lots of changes behind the scenes which should make everything run smoother.

• We've completely changed how we manage and store data, this should result in far snappier feeling page changes and overall reduced memory usage.
• The data cache function should now have far less of a performance impact on lower powered devices, as well as less memory build up over long periods of time.
• Anime/Manga list filter now works with all title languages instead of just currently active
• Added Genre filter to anime/manga lists
