This is the AWC's official Recruitment Thread. Below you will find descriptions of all AWC Staff roles. If you've ever considered joining our team, you can read up on the roles below and see which one you think might fit you best!

<hr><center><h1> Challenge Team </h1></center>
<h3>The Challenge Team Leader is @Samurai. He leads all aspects of AWC challenge creation. Samurai is also in charge of the List Team. @Tssubaki and @Plusho are the Managers for the Challenge Team, and help guide the team during challenge planning.
The Challenge Team designs, writes and tests all the anime and manga challenges. Members of the challenge team need to be creative, hardworking, and cooperative. They must be diligent and have the time, dedication and relaxed attitude for long planning discussions. As a challenge team member, you must be happy to share all your ideas (good or bad), respond well to feedback, and have the ability and imagination to improve upon the team's ideas as well as your own. Don't worry if you're shy or not confident, everyone is welcome on the team and confidence is not a priority. The Challenge Team is the heart of AWC, and works with every other team to ensure the coordinated planning and release of challenges and events.
You will be expected to help with all Manga and Anime Challenges. We use Google Docs for planning and drafting, so some experience with it will be a bonus, but not necessary. You will also be required to proofread our challenge posts which are in English and make complex use of AniList forum code.
Challenge planning involves brainstorming challenge ideas, creating and testing different rules, creating and testing requirements, team discussions, writing draft documents, debating and improving draft requirements, writing forum posts for challenges, writing challenge codes, proofreading forum posts and codes, and supporting the Challenge Team in any other areas as needed.
Applications to the challenge team involve the completion of a specific creative task, which will be announced on the AWC Discord whenever the team is hiring new members.</h3>

<center><h1>Design Team</h1></center>
<h3>The Design Team Leader is @Kanta, and the managers @bpmotard and @Fuha. The Design Team is responsible for all of the fun and fancy images in AWC challenges. There are two major areas of AWC design: Forum graphics and badges.
Forum graphics artists use Photoshop to create all of the images you see on our challenge posts, from headers to interesting and unique extra visuals to enhance the challenge. While we have a general format that we follow, we encourage imagination and creativity. As a forum graphic artist you will receive assignments to create graphics centered around a challenge's theme.
A badge artist is also a vector artist. We use Illustrator to hand-trace images, creating the form, and then color, detail, and shade the character to complete the images you see on our badges. These are then taken into our badge templates and exported so they can be sent to everyone who completes their challenge.
The visual effects artist is a role focused on elevating badges and graphics. This member is responsible for working with the badge and graphics artists to design and plan for visual and animated effects that are added to the designs. Current examples of this are the shines we have on our Monthly and Genre Mastery badges, as well as the glow on Seasonal badges. We are currently using After Effects to create animations for special badges in our Challenge catalog.
As a Design Team member, you will get assignments as early as possible, often a couple months in advance, to give you as much time as you need to be successful in creating graphics and images that meet the AWC standard. We do have deadlines, but we make sure assignments are given out early, so you will have plenty of time to work on your tasked projects.
We are looking for new team members to fill in the Forum Graphics Artist and Badge Artist positions. Prior experience with the software is not required for either position. We are willing to teach anyone with a desire to learn, as long as you have the drive to grow and improve within our team. </h3>

<center><h1>Review Team</h1></center>
<h3>The Review Team Leader is @annahoj. The Managers of the Review Team are @CelestialQueen and @qeziz. The Review Team is responsible for reviewing all completed challenges submitted by challengers and providing them with their badges when they successfully complete a challenge. Reviewing involves confirming that all challenge rules and requirements were followed, logging completed and failed challenges in our records, and providing feedback on challenges if needed. The Review Team is also responsible for assisting challengers via the Discord Ticket System and our FAQ thread.
Being a member of the Review Team does require time — you will be expected to devote time each week to reviewing submissions, and a goal is set for all members of the team to hit each week. However, we try not to be unreasonable — if you will be unavailable, you just need to communicate this. While goals are set, you are also given a maximum that you can do each week, meaning we restrict how much time you spend doing reviews so as to prevent burnout and unreasonable expectations.
As a member of the Review Team, you'll be expected to uphold the standards of quality for the Review Team. It's our responsibility to ensure that the challenges are fair for everyone and this is done by being meticulous and consistent from challenge to challenge.
Applications to the Review Team will involve a brief Q&A session where you'll be asked questions to determine your suitability for what the team is looking for at that time. We will view your experience with the challenges so far and take your challenge record into account, but this is not a deciding factor — those newer to challenges but interested in joining the Review Team are still encouraged to apply.</h3>

<center><h1>Community Team</h1></center>
<h3>The Community Team Leader is @puppieguts
» Community Moderation: Moderators are responsible for keeping the AWC Discord safe and welcoming. They make sure the day-to-day experience of our community members is a pleasant one. They must have the confidence to intervene if there is an issue in chat and act impartially to fairly apply Discord’s Community Guidelines.
The primary function as an AWC Moderator is simply to be active and present. They can oversee most channels, and will clear the occasional spam from a hacked account or facilitate constructive discussion. They can give warnings, kicks and bans when the rules are consistently broken by a troublesome user. We expect them to be firm, but fair, and maintain a positive presence in the community.
» Events Team: Your primary function is to work together with the team to cultivate new and exciting events that will appeal to as many people as possible. The team is laid back and prioritises the community getting together to both make friends and have fun whilst partaking in challenges, or even taking a break from them, We’re actively looking for people who are confident hosting games, voice chat events, or can handle being pinged quite often whilst hosting an event, but most importantly, someone creative!
» AMQ: Your primary function is to host AMQ games (and upcoming AMQ Tournaments)
Regardless of which role you partake in, you must be team and community driven: Being a part of AWC Staff is a labour of love. Our central goal is to provide fun content and a safe environment for the community, and we all work together to do so. It is imperative that we have like-minded people on our team who enjoy giving back to the community. Please note that you represent AWC in this role so it's important that you are a positive pillar within the community.</h3>

<center><h1>Development Team</h1></center>
<h3>The Development Team Leader is @Hayatsu, and the Manager is @Dimo. The Development Team is responsible for programming projects requested by other AWC teams, adding features to our challenger-facing portal at awc.moe, as well as maintaining any existing projects indefinitely. The Development Team needs to communicate with the other AWC teams in the process of these projects.
The Development Team focuses on one main technology for each level of the development stack. We currently use MongoDB for the database, Express.js for the server, and Pug for the user interface. Being familiar with any or all of these is not required—a willingness and ability to learn new things can oftentimes be more valuable than some amount of prior experience.
While there isn't any set expectations on how much time should be devoted to working on projects, some projects may have deadlines. As a member of the Development Team, you'll be expected to communicate regularly about your progress on assigned projects so that the team can adjust plans and assignments if necessary. There will never be a penalty for being unable to meet a deadline or getting stuck on an issue as long as it is communicated in a timely manner. We want to make sure that everyone is enjoying the time they spend programming.
Applications for The Development Team will involve a Q&A session involving some simple questions to gauge your technical experience and fit for the team. Although not at all required or expected, we would also be happy to see any of your hobby programming projects you're proud about—especially if they are anime or manga related.</h3>

<center><h1>List Team</h1></center>
<h3>The List Team Leader is @Samurai, and the List Team Manager is @uy5gf. The List Team is responsible for verifying all list submissions sent to the Thread. The verification process involves several steps, such as ensuring that the entry submitted is not yet on our lists, checking that it conforms to our definitions, verifying that the anime effectively corresponds to the provided proof and providing feedback on the submission.The team is also responsible for creating new lists, making sure that they have a wide enough pool to make them worthwhile, defining the scope of each list, and populating them ahead of their release.
Being a member of the List Team requires the ability to confront various sources without minding too much being exposed to potential spoilers, using external sites and tools to verify the evidence provided, using your own knowledge or talking with other staff to confirm the accuracy of the suggestion, sourcing and skimming/watching the anime to confirm the suggestion and reporting this information accurately. While there is no current quota to meet, you will still be expected to claim a fair share of submissions. However, we try not to be unreasonable — if you will be unavailable you just need to communicate this.
As a member of the List Team, you'll be expected to interface with other users through submissions. It's our responsibility to ensure that the verifications are fair and consistent for everyone and this is done by being meticulous.

<center><h1>Update Team</h1></center>
<h3>The Update Team Leader is @Plusho, and the Managers are @Dimo and @Simi. AWC has released over 500 challenges since we began in 2018 — It’s the role of the Update Team to keep them all up-to-date!
Each Update Team member acts as a caretaker for the challenges they choose. They need to use their creativity to look for ways to improve challenges and requirements, particularly considering new AniList tags and data that has been added since the challenge was released. In addition, they must aim to make the rules as clear as possible and work with the Challenge Team and Reviewers to understand the intent behind the rules and requirements, and how they are reviewed.
They must also check through the challenge to ensure that: the rules and requirements are in line with our most recent standards; that there are no mistakes; that tags and character credits still match what is listed on AniList, that user credits are up-to-date and that the forum post and code documents are using the latest AWC templates. Attention to detail and patience is a must for these tasks, so we value recruits who can work slowly and carefully to find and correct issues.
The responsibilities are easily scalable and are generally low pressure, as each challenge only needs checking once per season. As an Update Team member, your workload depends on how many challenges you take care of - this can be anything from 1 to 25 - and you can drop or swap challenges with other team members at any time.
Applications to the Update Team will involve a brief Q&A where we discuss your interest in AWC and suitability for the team. The second stage involves a little creative task where you will be asked about improving a challenge.</h3>

They will be tagged in the post, and their Discord profile will be listed for you. Please note that our Leaders generally prefer to discuss these matters on Discord, and they will generally require a friend request on Discord before you message them. However, none of them will bite and they're all looking forward to speaking with you.
