The Promised Neverland
Manga
A masterpiece... until it gets really bad
59~~~This first part of the reviews does not contain spoilers AFTER THE FIST ANIME SEASON.
~~~The visuals don’t stand out from other mangas, except by very few panels. I particularly don’t like the art style.
With several super-smart children in an orphanage, the story begins weirdly normal until they find out that they are not waiting for adoption but are in fact cattle, waiting to be killed and served as food. After that, the cat and rat games became the central part of the story and It is, by far, the best part of the entire manga. The thriller and mind-games don’t let you stop reading, you always want to read one more chapter.
My score for the first three arcs:
<center>
- Story: 91 Characters: 82Visuals: 69Enjoyment: 96
<br> 84/100 </center>
This manga starts with some great dark story, but, after the second/third arc, it starts to gradually lose quality, until It gets completely garbage in the three last arcs. The amount of unbelievable and improbable things that start happening is out of this world, and those improbable events keep happening one after another, again and again, nonstop until the very last second. From the middle to the end, I only keep following this just to know how the author will be able to keep shitting on the work that once enchanted me. Here is an image that represents this manga.
~SPOILERS AHEAD!!!~
Emma’s blind optimism and selfish behavior are immense. Putting all her friends at risk, betting their lives on some idealistic outcome. And one of the worst parts of it is that everyone suddenly changes their minds, going from “WE NEED TO KILL ALL DEMONS AND EAT THEIR FLESH TO AVENGE OUR DEAD FRIENDS” to “Yeahh let’s help Emma with her impossible plan to save all demons while risking the lives of all of us!!! ”.
To finish it all with a suitable end to this trashcan on fire, all end with a flawless victory to the idealistic, utopic plan with the only consequence introducing no real punishments for Emma's absurd wish.
As the good part of this manga, it’s only the first three arcs, my score is HUGELY influenced by the other eight arcs.
"why giving it an above 50 score if it is so bad?"
The most part of the story is actually enjoyable, no that good, but enjoyable, with the arc that the first season of the anime adapts, the golden pond arc(they skipped this arc on the anime second season), and the lost children alone, by them selfs, making choices to survive. It's also entertaining to see the trashcan on fire with your favorites characters changing personalities for no reason along with numerous Deus ex machina moments on the three last arcs.
I highly recommend not to read or watch it after the first anime season adaptation and if you accept my advice here is a summary to save your time.
