Author glazes Togashi

Hunter x Hunter has been one of my favorite series since I started it, easily one of the best demonstrations and usages of the Hero's Journey in fiction, let alone Manga as a whole. Togashi's art style is super recognizable and really makes the story so much better. The story never relies solely on the art style, but it could. Scenes are often back and forth with super highly detailed close up shots of characters, to a chibi version of Killua in the background, and it is entertaining both in story and panel composition. Hunter x Hunter has about 9 arcs in total, the longest and in my opinion the best, is the Chimera Ant Arc. The Chimera Ant Arc really never disappoints, even though people like to complain that it's super drawn out and isn't focusing enough on Gon, it's super in depth and is a great read front to back. Character Design is one of Togashi's strengths in my opinion, starting characters with very appearances and slowly evolving them throughout the setting and plot changes. Kurapika is a great example of this; he starts off with the Kurta clan wardrobe and keeps it all the way through the Exam Arc, after the Exams, he wears a different outfit for the Yorknew City arc, and in his other appearances, he rotates through the few he has. In the Succession War Arc and the Chairman Election, he now has a suit and no real Kurta Clan representation. I feel like the growth in characters is also super important, but emphasizing the character growing in maturity and strength by changing wardrobes is a super unrated point that I wish more mangakas included as well as Togashi does. Along with some of the greatest character design and development, Togashi incorporates a sense of anticipation between arcs that I haven't seen in any other mangas that always keep the reader excited to read the next arcs. I really do wish we could see some of the later arcs animated, and obviously a continuation of the current arc, especially with the incorporation of Kurapika as the story's main character. One complaint I hear all the time considering the manga, is the abundance of words; people love to complain that the pages begin to seem overwhelming, which may be annoying to some people, but I would love if it there was just a novel of the story, without words.
