Only doing this because i am absolutely gutted that this got axed
68So disclaimer this would be my first review and so read at your own discretion.
Mind you this is coming from someone who read My dearest self with malice aforethought(MDSWMA for simplicity sake) first before this so my opinion on the mangaka was already incredibly high to begin with. I will start of by saying I would agree with some people who say this wasn't a mind blowing new manga with new concepts etc etc. With my knowledge I'd say this was quite similar to mangas like Tougen Anki, Kagurabachi, Smokin' Parade and there's probably more that I'm either forgetting or haven't read yet.
The story is kind of the basic premise with the ones I mentioned with it starting as the MC is on a quest for revenge or trying to wipe out a certain clan or group of people/mages/demons etc. then finding out either that their family line was super involved with their most hated party or that they have some mysterious power or that there's some big twist that the "enemy" isn't actually very enemy-like. Like I said, not mind-blowing.
However, with my bias from reading MDSWMA I would've really wanted to have seen where the mangaka would've gone with this story. The first few chapters already were banging with the fact that we thought it was going to be like MDSWMA where it's a psychological murder type manga, very non-fantasy set in the world of mere humans. Then we get slapped with psychics and magic and the whole nine yards which honestly was really nice. It made me start with this preparation for a dark and gloomy story but it somehow became more lighthearted.
The characters, I mean what can I say. They were honestly very well designed and written, I didn't even feel like any one of the characters(the characters that we were able to get to know before getting axed) I hated or didn't want to see more of.
And of course being the creator of MDSWMA, the twist were always keeping you on edge. Maybe some might argue saying they were predictable but honestly if someone could have predicted it then they've just read a lot of manga at this point. You could piece some pieces together but the twist were actually good. Especially with chapters 25 and further getting into the larger part of the story, I could definitely see where the story would have evolved and be written into quite a good manga. Obviously being axed meant the whole portion with the great grandma had to have been rushed and made into somewhat of an ending which did knock my rating down to a six. I'm still not sure why this was axed but I really enjoyed what few chapters this had so I suggest you give it a read too. Maybe in the future this may get picked up again and the rushed ending being removed to let the story continue because it definitely could have been made really good.
