#1 in most popular for a reason, folks.

This review was written way back around 2017 right when the movie came out!

My opinions of it have most likely changed since then, but I really loved what I wrote for this movie, so please enjoy younger me's thoughts!!

Oh. My. God. The tears…. dude I’m balling my eyes out right now. It’s like I’m wringing my eyes out, I feel like I’m going to collapse if I don’t write a review for this movie immediately!!

Taki and Mitsuha.

Man, I have never wanted anyone to be together so badly in my whole life. Taki is a regular boy going to high school in the city of Tokyo, and Mitsuha is a regular teen and shrine maiden that goes to high school in the quiet town of Itomori. One morning, these two wake up to find that they are living someone each other’s life. They write diary entries in each other’s digital diaries so that they can update each other on what happens while their bodies are switched. Mitsuha tells Taki about a comet expected to pass Earth in a few days' time, on the day of her town’s festival. When the day comes, the town of Itomori is destroyed, killing 500 people (1/3 of the town’s population) and leaving behind a huge reminder of the event. Taki can’t get ahold of Mitsuha and is no longer switching with her, which leads him on a journey to find her. On his way, he finds out that the incident of Itomori occurred three years ago, and that Mitsuha has long been gone. Taki goes to Mitsuha's family shrine and finds the kuchikamizake and drinks it, hoping to reconnect to her body before the comet strikes. He wakes up in her body on the morning of the festival and convinces her friends to help him evacuate the village. Once the plan to evacuate the town is underway, Taki thinks that he might find Mitsuha at the shrine where he had connected to her. He runs to the shrine and sees her there, they then run to each other but cannot fully interact with each other until it is twilight. When it becomes so, they have a comedic conversation, then Taki decides that they should write each other’s names on their hand so that they would not forget about one another. Right as Taki was finished writing and as Mitsuha was about to write her name, she vanishes, leaving Taki on the mountain, wondering why he was there. Two years past and he can feel that deep inside he has been searching for something all this time. He doesn’t know what, but he is always searching. Until one day, he sees Mitsuha on the train and can feel that he has met her before. They run out of the train and frantically try to find each other until they meet at a staircase. They pass each other, thinking that this was just a simple mistake, until he turns around and asks her if they have met before. She agrees and the movie ends off with them both saying, “Your name is…”

Now, tell me that doesn't sound like a BOMB ass story. If you disagree, you're just actually wrong, fully, physically incorrect. Here's why.

First off, the animation and design of this movie gives the whole film a beautiful and complex environment. It leaves you feeling calm and mystified the entire time, and watching it in high quality is most certainly breath-taking at the least. It definitely matches perfectly with the feeling the film is supposed to portray to the audience. The plot and story of the movie is wonderfully mysterious and thoughtful, even though the science behind it might not make sense, we must all remember that sometimes there are no answers that make sense and that not all questions can or should be solved.

Furthermore it's an anime, have a lil fun. :-]

The character development is simply amazing, the way the two characters help each other and interact in a unique way is so amazing in itself, keeping in mind that they are from two separate timelines. The relationships and events that help strengthen each other’s bond is so rich in feeling and emotion, to the point where it induces feeling into the audience as well. The viewers are thrown in deep into the stories and carry the feelings of the characters along with them. This truly was an amazing and heart filled movie that is totally and honestly worth all the time it took to watch it and more.

One thing I'd say is maybe revising how the time travel works? But I'm used to anime not making sense, so I'm not too worried about the schematics!

It's clear the effort and time that it took to write, compose, and create this movie was insane. I went to go see it in cinemas an hour away from my house in a Dolby Theatre, and dude... it was enchanting! I would give anything to be able to see it again on a big beautiful screen with speakers blaring the music right in my ear.

Your Name, Kimi no Na Wa, is a beautiful masterpiece of a movie. Definitely go watch it!
