Very sexualized anime, but with a very nice story and impressive character development

Today I want to talk about "Mushoku Tensei". I watched the anime some time ago and do this review based on the past memory. As you know from me, I will base my review on some researches as well. Sadly I only watched the first 11 episodes which I will base my review on. (I got told, that there is more to this anime and on anilist it is discribed as second season. Thanks to that person :))

1. Story

The anime "Mushoku Tensei" is based on a 34 year old man, Rudeus Greyrat, who got reincarnated into a different world as a child. His memories from his first life still remains as he got reincarnated, that is why he could learn magic and read books at a young age. In his previous life, he tried to save a girl from a truck which was going to hit her but despite being sad that he died, he was happy since in his previous life, he didn't really have a socialized life. Like stealing pants from girls and having wild fantasies.

On his journey of learning many different spells in his early ages, he gets a girl, Roxy Migurdia, as teacher. In the years they live together, one can see his sexual fantasies which makes both his teacher and his maid, Lilia, are distanced about his behavior.

Through his journey, he gets to know even more girls and the story goes even wilder but we talk about this later.

2. Characters

In the anime, there are only two bigger male main characters and more female main characters. I want to talk about three characters here.

Rudeus Greyrat: a very hard to explain character since there is so much to say about him, which contains very many spoilers. So in this point, please don't open, if you didn't watch it now.
In his previous life, he was a very lonely man which only knew his video games. He died without anyone mourning about his death. In one scene one can see his living condition which is very miserable. His new life is a very big contrast to his previous one since he does give his all to learn magic and tries to escape his old self. Only thing is, that he has very many sexual fantasies as a child (since he technically is an adult already it is normal, but he has sexual fantasies with minors which makes me cringe.)

Roxy Migurdia: Rudeus teacher in his early years. She is a mage from the Migurd race, who have a special ability that allows them to communicate telepathically to each other at a close distance without seeing each other, but only Roxy doesn't have this ability, that is why she left her hometown. Impressed about Rudeus abilities, she decides to teach him and after some years of teaching, she accepts that Rudeus is growing very fast and that she cannot teach him anything anymore.

Eris Boreas Greyrat: after Roxy left Rudeus, Rudeus decides to take on a job to earn money for him and a friend he got to attent school. The job includes to persuade Eris to learn magic and teach her. As a very proud girl, Eris doesn't want to learn magic and throws a tarantum as she sees that her teacher is even younger than her. Through the anime, she run through a very big character change.

I don't want to drag on talking about the characters any longer since the anime is very based on them and the characters all deserves to be explained in a very detailed way which I cannot do in such a review. I do love the facets of every characters the anime shows. One can really see and feel how they think.

3. Art / Animation / Soundtrack

The art of the anime is really beautiful and the animation is very smooth. I like how the art reflects the timeline the story takes place.

When I listened to the opening of the anime, I got the feeling about a very far country and a bit of a sad feeling. I really like how the harp, piano and violin flows together in a nice harmony. After reading the lyrics, I understand why the feeling of sadness is flowing to me. It really suits the anime well. Here the lyric explanation: link

4. Conclusion

After explaining so much about the anime itself, I also want to tell you my point of view. I really liked the idea of the anime but I don't really like the "reincarnation" story in general. The characters are really nice played though and the background stories are very beautiful and well explained. I really can relate with every person in the anime. Just one part of the characters that I didn't like is the sexualising the whole female existence. Eventhough they show, that characters are important, not just the female body but I personally think that it is too much. The anime do be trying to show why the main character has so many sexual fantasies but this still doesn't give me personally the explanation about the exessive thinking about it. It was especially far for me to understand as he enjoyed hearing his parents doing sexual stuff and the fantasy about a 34 year old with some minors.

I am impressed about the detail in the explanation about the world the main character reincarnated in. But I don't get it, how the "god" is always talking with him. Like, doesn't he have some other stuff to do? Maybe I have a different view about a "god" which makes me hard to accept the fact. Furthermore, I didn't like how the main character is shown nacked in every meeting they have. I do get, that the producers maybe want to show that every person are the same without their clothes and status and focus more on character.

All in all, I think the anime really do have an impressive character development and story. But I think, that it was too much sexualized content in it which makes a big minus for me personally. Without it, the anime would have get a 90/100. With it, I can only give it a 66/100 (didn't want to give it 65, since 66 is a nicer number :)). Plus, I think that the main character was a bit overpowered in the end which I didn't like. He still did some faults with his arrogant attitute which I on the other hand, liked. That is why I still recomment the anime though for people who likes "reincarnations" and "magic".
