The beginning of this review will not contain spoilers, although, further in I will provide a spoiler warning. If you have not watched this anime yet then I don’t suggest going past that point. (Unless you want to)

in this review I will go over my thoughts and feelings of the movie. Later on I will then talk about the storyline while talking about the major characters in the story.

I only recently watched this anime because my friend has been recommending it to me. I’ve been putting it off for a very long time, however, I’m glad I decided to watch it.

~❀ Introduction ❀~

This story is about a frustrated girl sick of her little town, and a simple lonely boy.

‘Your name’ was made by Makoto Shinkai and was released on April 7th, 2017. Love for the animation & manga of this movie made a big impact.

~~~In the beginning we are only introduced to a few of the characters. it’s a bit confusing but I’ll hope you can read this as I explain it all in detail to you.~~~

~~~This story first opens up to a girl named Mitsuha Miyamizu. She is a high school girl who lives in the rural town of itomori, Japan.~~~

As the story progresses a little Mitsuha becomes bored of the town and wishes to be a Tokyo boy in her next life. One day, Mitsuha finds something written in her notebook that she hadn’t put there. Soon after her friends confront her saying she was acting weird the day before. Thus this set off the events of Mitsuha switching lives with a Tokyo boy named Taki Tachibana.

It takes them a while to figure this out but once they do, theyll have to get used to each other’s surroundings and the way they live. They learn soon enough that they can communicate with each other through notes on their phones.

Once they get used to they’re lives switching with each other Mitsuha sets Taki up on a date with Miki Okudera. Meanwhile, taki causes Mitsuha to become popular at school. One day Taki (in mitsuha’s body) goes with Mitsuha’s grandma and younger sister to the Shinto shrine. When they were at the shrine they placed ritual alcohol they made as an offering for the shrine.

~ஐ Conclusion ஐ~

The day after the shrine visit Taki wakes up in his body and goes on the date with Miki. After the date Miki says she enjoyed the date but knows that taki has someone else in mind. Taki then attempts to call Mitsuha on the phone but doesn’t reach her. He then realized that the body switches stopped happening and was wondering why.

~!Later on taki then decides to take a trip to Gifu by train, Miki and his friend Tsukasa end up joining him. Taki, however, does not know the name of itomori, which he soon found out was destroyed and 500 residents killed. This happened because of the comet Tiamat suddenly broke apart as it passed by earth three years into the past.

Id like to skip to the part when taki goes back to the shrine. When he does this he drinks the kuchikamizake Mitsuha made and then lapses into a vision. Here he sees pieces of Mitsuha’s past and the encounter he first had with her on a train. Mitsuha gives him the ribbon that he’s worn around his wrist for 3 years.

Taki wakes up in Mitsuha’s body and later on starts devising a plan to get the town to evacuate. Him, tessie, and sayaka who are Mitsuha’s friends, devise the plan to cause an explosion and sound an emergency alert. While doing all of this taki realizes that Mitsuha must be in his body at the shrine. The two sense each other at the top of the mountain but cannot interact until ‘magic hour.’

The two talk a little and then taki returns Mitsuha’s ribbon. After they do this they attempt to write each others names on their palms. Before they do though Mitsuha suddenly disappears. When the evacuation plan fails, Mitsuha has to convince her father Toshiki, the mayor of Itomori, to evacuate everyone. Before doing this, Mitsuha notices her memories of Taki are fading away and discovers he wrote "I love you" on her hand instead of his name. After Tiamat crashes, Taki, in his own timeframe, remembers nothing.!~

Five years later, Taki, has graduated from university, and is searching for a job. He senses he has lost something important that he cannot identify, and feels inexplicable interest in the events surrounding Tiamat, now eight years in the past: Itomori was destroyed, but all of its people survived as they had evacuated just in time. Mitsuha and her friends has since moved to Tokyo. Sometime later, Taki and Mitsuha glimpse each other when their respective trains pass each other, and are instantly drawn to seek one another, disembarking and racing to find the other, finally meeting at the stairs of Suga Shrine [ja]. Taki calls out to Mitsuha, saying that he feels that he knows her, and she responds likewise. Having finally found what each had long searched for, they shed tears of happiness and simultaneously ask each other for their name.

I truly loved this anime as I was watching it. It made me happy, sad, and frustrated all at the same time. While experiencing all of this it also kept me interested the whole time. I hope you all enjoyed this review of ‘your name.’ Thank you.
