It's a decent manhwa that I`m enjoying, although I wouldn't put your expectations too high.

Kingdom of the Queen was a manhwa I stumbled upon and started reading with no expectations in mind. The premise seemed un-enticing and to me, who is an avid isekai romance manhwa reader, it looked...typical. After all, it's not uncommon to find some trashy romance isekai manhwa that is mis-tagged. But, being that I was fairly bored I decided to give it a go.

The story starts off just as stated in the synopsis, four girls recieving a challenge to be queen..by the queen. The story seems to just be the adventures of these girls empowering women and completing the tests set by the queen. To be honest though, the entire 'I'm going to be queen!' thing was forgotten about by chapter 5, and the hostility started to fade by then.

The story focuses on the dynamics of the girls facing an anti-female society. Yep, you read that right. Most of the story so far is just about feminism. And the authors didn't really try to hide it. From the get go, the problem of females being limited due to their gender was brought up. And those who did happen to reach beyond those limit’s set were called witches and were to be killed. It does deal with some real life issues that women faced not only in the past but also in our modern world. Although, if you're going to read this solely for the plot, I'd suggest you look someplace else.

The art isn't anything exceptional in either way. It's not bad but it's not like I was taking screenshots of every panel due to its absolute supremacy over other art. It was your standard isekai manhwa art. Readers who are mainly famillair with shounen may not be used to the art style, but the art reminded me of literally every other shoujo isekai manhwa ever.

The authors didn't really try to make unique characters, or at least that's how it seemed to me. All the characters were archetypes that I've seen before. Our cast in this manhwa consists of four girls, as mentioned in the description. There's the tomboy, the stoic girl, the soft and well intentioned intelligent girl, and lastly, the loud and dramatic girl. I`m currently on chapter 28 but I do expect some kind of character development to make these girls a bit less 2D. That being said, I didn't really find any of the characters to be annoying so far which was a pleasant surprise.

Overall?

This manhwa wasn't the best thing in the world but it was actually enjoyable. Keeping my enjoyment in mind, I can see that this won't appeal to male audience or those who like to read shounen-type webcomics. And, if you still think it's yuri by the end of this review, it's not. It doesn't even have any yuri bait (which was surprising considering the all female cast and the cover). In fact, there's literally no romance in the manhwa which was refreshing to see. I'd say give it a go, but don't over-hype it in your mind.
