I mean, literally nothing happened apart from finding the book he wanted.
Well i guess no one else, bothered to make a RECAP discussion about this episode lol.
I mean, literally nothing happened apart from finding the book he wanted.
__I'll recap the ENTIRE progress of this episode with 2 short sentences.
__
Elymas stumbles upon the skillbook he seeks in an underground shop and asks the shopkeeper to keep it for him at the cost of 55 million gold so he needs to grind for it.
Elymas encounters a player of which he thinks has a rare skill book that gets bullied and kicked off her team. He knows the real value of the skillbook so he tries to recruit her. This is where it ends.
All of this could've happened in 5 minutes of screentime. But no, we need to see the useless recaps, we need to see the exact same scene repeating over 3 times, we need to drag out what happens with sluggishly paced dialogue and directing, we need to be explained the most basic RPG elements over and over again. This is garbage.
I would have made a recap but because we have found this interesting, we learned a little bit more about the world and why nobles are as powerful as they are. It's because they hoard all the skill books and a lot of classes live or die by the skill trees they have access to. There are some skill trees that are in skill books that can't actually be rolled on that class normally but it complements and amplifies that class dramatically. We also got to see our main girl and they went all out with her. She is so cute and, in my opinion, immediate wife material. We got to learn the brutality of the skill system. You spec wrong, there's no reset, at least not that we know of. There's no reset token or anything like that so you kind of have to build correctly from the beginning. Or at least if there is a reset token, it is probably near impossible to get one. I guarantee the Nobles probably horde those too.
Also I'd love to figure out what exactly her class is and what is the skill tree that they're talking about that she has. I can only assume it's some type of luck skill tree but I want to know more. It'll be interesting to see her be a part of the team because the main problem will still kind of happen where they won't have any good DPS. Actually she might be fine because she will have our main character be a tank for her. It might be very slow at the beginning for her to get some more levels to get an actual attack skill or maybe the skills she needs in that skill tree. You could use it in such a way to where it boosts damage or something, maybe more critical hits, and just focus on a crit build maybe.
Absolutely finally happy to see her and I can't wait for next episode. I do know there's a lot of people that aren't too happy with how it's being paced and that's fine. If it does bother you too much I would say you could always check out a different show. We're not forced to watch this one but I do think I'm going to enjoy this show. This anime I'm already enjoying it. Go hands has made one of my favorite anime before. "The Girl I Like, Forgot Her Glasses", and I'm happy to see another anime from them.
Filler episode, feel free to skip.
Calm ep
Cashier a real one for telling Elymas the secret passage.
Lucky asf that he found one, but damn, granny tweaking with those prices.
Damn, they did Ruche dirty by kicking the out the party like that.
Looks like Elymas found the right person to help him get the skill book in a more efficient way.
Bro looks like a crazed animal, lol.
7/10

Usually an episode has a bit of recap, but this time recap had a bit of episode!
~~~Me when they're at it repeating scenes for half the episode again:
Apart from the scarce new content that we get every episode I feel like the story is doing a good job for me not drop this yet. Why did he not argue with the old hag about the price? She obviously priced it as high as 50 million because he was so happy seeing the book. I do not know if that book is that rare but it seemed like all of them were rare so 50 million compared to the 3 is a scam. But from the looks of it the new party member has a skill to increase rare drop chance so he can sell the drops and reach his 55 million goal quickly.
From the moment i heard the voice of the blue haired girl it reminded me of Alna from Ryoumin and lo and behold it is the same voice actor. She got a unique voice.
I think it's to remind you that he was brought up as a noble, and is pretty dumb at this stuff. He doesn't bluff, has no idea how to haggle, and basically had no idea how the world works (money-wise).
Honestly I thought he was going to work for the old hag. Do some quest that requires a tank.
But at least short skirts has finally shown up.
Do some quest that requires a tank
That would have actually been a decent idea. Too bad this entire world has no idea that tanking is a thing apparently. It's such an odd premise that, for some reason, comes up in multiple anime. "What if the entire world were just some RPG, except nobody who lived there knew how to play an RPG."
Oh well, I'm going to watch it anyway, so I can't exactly complain about it.
As someone that's read the manga, this episode did go a bit overboard with the amount of recaps that could have been simplified into fewer scenes, but I understand if the studio is trying to fill the episode to stay within their budget. I think someone just needs to make a fan edit/cut after the season is done.
You could probably watch this series in the span of 2 episodes, the way it's going. I've never said this about anime before but it feels like I'm being rambled to when watching it.
I thought it was crazy the amount of detail they put into the scenes where he was just walking through the city. The scenes were only a few seconds long each, but they all had tons of characters walking around doing stuff. I think that's where the episode's budget went. Still not as bad as Endless 8.
Am I the only one who felt fine with this episode? It felt like 3 minutes long to me
YAY Finally Ruche gets introduced. I would have loved this entire episode to be 3 minutes and just continued on with them getting going though. I do love the reactions at the very end when he asks her to join his party.
getting a recap of stuff that happened literally 2 minutes ago is a crazy new low in the hall of fame of shit-pacing animes
This episode was done a lot better than the first 4. There wasn't any repetitive recaps at the start and after breaks and there wasn't any scenes that seemed like a time waste. Others are calling this filler, but we got progress and lore. We learned more about the situation with nobility, the MC has a goal to reach, new party member entrance, and another example of how toxic the adventurer field is against non-combat roles. This wasn't filler, it just didn't have a fight in it. There are a lot of popular anime like One Piece, Bleach, and Black Clover that have tons of useless filler episodes that bring nothing of value like world building or introducing side story content into the main story.
Ruche could scream less.
Thanks for saying it. I agree with all that you noticed. This episode did really well in terms of subtle worldbuilding. You see how the church and nobles hold onto power. You once again see folks focused on attack power.
Also (since I've been hammering this drum in multiple threads), because this is a 'real' world, people are correctly buying Healing Potions to stay alive, which raise their cost far beyond the non-economic prices in a regular game.
I think it's pretty clear she's got a luck tree that increases rare things like drops and critical hits.
Aside from eye-vomit issues, and about 6 minutes of skippable scenes, I think the only other annoyance was how easy it was for him to run into that skillbook he was looking for. On the other hand, it's also something like 20x the effort of the Raid, which already gave him far more loot than necessary because Gowtan was a rockstar.
I bet any skill reset costs a lot of money and is controlled by the nobility, that seems to be how the world there works. Control everything an adventurer needs to get big, and they will keep their grip and wealth over everyone else.
I also assume it is a luck type skill tree that raises drop rates after meeting conditions or actions. I bet the plan is use her to farm rare loot from creatures that the MC can deal with and use that to raise funds for his skill book. Maybe they'll bring in one of the DPS he worked with before, like the guy he saved from the frogs.
From the moment i heard the voice of the blue haired girl it reminded me of Alna from Ryoumin and lo and behold it is the same voice actor. She got a unique voice.
Thank you for calling that out. I want to go look. That voice actor has done a few of my favorite characters because I love Alna. The other character that she did was also the main girl from DANDADAN and the main girl from The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, which is one of my favorite anime also she's doing multiple voices this season, even! Like, from Victoria of Many Faces she's Nonan which and a few more anime that I've watched and loved that character for. She voices some of my favorite characters it seems.
