This show suffers from the same issue that plagued Apothecary Diaries when I was watching it: it's so enjoyable it makes you want to binge the whole thing. Waiting every week for a new episode is gonna be a test of patience for sure.

I can definitely see where this show is going, unfortunately, I doubt we're going to see the real bad guy get her comeuppance this season.

Also I guarantee that Maomao would poison a guy just to get her hands on the shack Shu Keigetsu lives in.

I'm not sure how spoilery this is so I'll just spoiler it all but,
We're about 1/3 of the way through book one of the LN. Books one and two contain the first "story arc" so it looks like it's on track to cover that
The first story does say who was the person who was hiding behind the mask in this episode iirc

I love how Reirin is dealt the worst cards and her reaction is "perfect! exactly what I dreamed of" :D It reminds me about that one manga in which villainess was put in prison for life and she was acting as if it was the best thing ever that happened to her having time of her life lol

Keigetu is such a tragic person. I think that this story could also have worked in a less villainous way in which she and Reirin made a pact to swap souls and lived their best lives as each other. Tho then Reirin wouldn't be banished and wouldn't have her "I always dreamed of being a farmer" life so I guess this scenario works far better for what each of them actually wanted. (Tho it is hilarious that Keigetsu had no idea what "perfect" life of Reirin looks like and that it is full of fevers and grueling sports to gain stamina :D) Also btw the entire Shu palace needs a good ass kicking for how the court ladies act towards their Maiden and their personal court lady srsly.

Keigetsu's life being what it is, and Reirin not being aware that court ladies could be so terrible, gives us wonderful soil for future stories.
Don't you want to see how the Shu court deals with Reirin's soul? She's got willpower to spare. How will she break them with kindness?
And don't you want to see Keigetsu's soul recognize that Reirin wasn't the born-with-silver-spoon princess that it seemed? Will she break? Will she be the one to revert their body swap?
One final thing.... Keigetsu wasn't much of a villainness either. Her court hasn't been beaten into a shape that obeys her will. Even her personal court lady wasn't a trained obedient servant. I'm kinda hoping that a mile in Reirin's shoes will have Keigetsu's soul become a better person. Who knows if it's that kind of show.

I know that Apothecary Diaries doesn't own the chinese aesthetics, but it isn't just the aesthetics that remind me of it. The art style of this show also feels really reminiscent of Apothecary Diaries, like Maomao and Jinshi could just appear next episode and I wouldn't bat an eye.

Liking this one so far. We got a flashback for Keigetsu life and it seems like she did not have it the best but she still turned out a piece of shit so I wonder if Keigetsu is going to be a better person living through Reirin life.

Reirin reminds me a little of Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket. She finds the best of most situations and is very diligent/hardworking.

The story has interested me. I just hope that 11 episodes will be enough to feel satisfied with ending partway through the story.

Personally, I hope Reirin (Keigetsu's soul) ends up desperately wanting to switch back but remains unable because physical contact is still required for the switch, and of course no one will let Keigetsu (Reirin's soul) anywhere near her now. Then I imagine she'd try to sneak out, but she probably won't have the stamina to get there because she's shirked on training since the swap... so either she gets caught before even making it out of her own pavilion and is basically forced to train for the first time, or she makes it halfway, uses her magic to beg Reirin's soul to meet her wherever she's collapsed (I expect she'll still be willing to switch back due to her selflessness), and then they get caught right before the switch, with "Keigetsu" standing over a helpless and barely conscious "Reirin" resulting in the near complete reversal of all the progress Reirin's soul will have made in getting people to like her as Keigetsu up to then (save for LeeLee of course, and maybe Eagle Eyes)

That's a fun scene.
Do you prefer Keigetsu's soul to be in that position because she's being punished for her actions? Because you can switch bodies but you're still the same nasty person on the inside.
Or do you prefer Keigetsu's soul to be working towards redemption, but she's just not as willful as Reirin's soul?

TBF there is a trend in villainess manhwa where it turns out that villainess was actually abused by everyone and her nasty behavior was her acting out in sort of "bullied becomes the bully to feel better about her own situation" thing. So Keigetsu falls into this villainess archetype that is actually just a victim that victimizes others.

Sadly, a victim that victimizes others is too common an origin story. Criminology calls this the Victim-Offender overlap. For example, individuals abused as kids are far more likely to return the abuse on their children.
In a sense, it's realistic. Inexcusable. But realistic.

  It is, tho because it's common it also kind of explains why so many villainesses recently get this archetype. Often the only divide between the villainess and heroine is how they handled their abuse and if they gave abuse back or not. (Which becomes a bit of a problem if their end is usually banishment or death :/ But it's also why I like stories that focus on redemption because it gives them a chance to change but also gives other characters a chance to help them heal this time around).
