this series has been deemed ineligible because the novels were published first under Kodansha Novels, so not actually classified as light novel

Can we not do these kind of insane legacy deletions for entries that have been in the database for over a decade? What is the point of this? To prove you found a technicality?

I'm not a data moderator but let me try to explain from a community moderators perspective.

while I think it's perfectly fine and rather encourage-able to have criticism of the mod team and data moderator action, unfortunately I think some people are arguing in bad faith and what's already could be said has been said resulting in this thread needing to be locked.

data moderators are not looking for things to remove to annoy our users or make their experience worse, but rather keep consistencies within our database so we have a clear defined line of what belongs based on our currently defined criteria viewable in our notion

I cannot confirm or deny if this is something that's final, but I'd appreciate if everyone would be a bit more rational with their arguments!

Nobody supports this decision but the mods. Everyone has always accepted their novels as part of the light novel ecosystem, and removing them only serves these guidelines. Sorry if I sound harsh, but this decision is nothing but moronic. Utter nonsense.

it does feel like the mod team could've been a bit more direct and clear in stating why it was being removed but also it takes like ten seconds of research to see that yeah this probably shouldn't have been on the site in the first place, and the last message in the other thread (even making this thread is potentially guideline-breaking) was pretty clear that consistency in the database is valued over legacy. this has mostly been the standard for as long as i can remember so it shouldn't be too surprising, outside of that it took this long to catch in the first place.

the frustrating part is really the wishy-washy distinction between LN and novel that basically no source will give you a clear answer on. having more information on the mods' stance on that in particular could be nice, though maybe i just don't know where to find that

edit: there is a very clear definition given in the submission manual, tho publishers will in general also have a lot of asterisks attached to them so ehhhhh

I'm not involved in this change, but it's clear that the constructive discussion isn't over yet, so I don't think this thread should have been locked. However, for the sake of streamlining the conversation, it doesn't really make sense to unlock this thread again at this point in time. Please instead use the newer and more active https://anilist.co/forum/thread/91216 to provide feedback.

The intention behind the lock was to direct what was deemed an unproductive conversation to other forum threads as well as our Discord server, so a more constructive environment could be established there. The question of whether this was necessary aside, we should have made it clearer what avenues for criticism were still available and why this one was taken away. I apologize on behalf of the team for the confusion surrounding this thread.
