Okay, this episode feels like it embodies a lot of what I hate about this show and why I think it is just plain bad. The animation looking terrible is nothing new, at times it feels like it makes TBATE look like Demon Slayer in comparison, but Allen is just such a stupid and plain character, I can't anymore.
He is played up as this hardcore gamer, but doesn't act the way one would imo. If I look at situations Allen is in and try to think how hardcore gamers from other anime would act, like Sunraku from Shangri-La Frontier, Ye Xiu from The King's Avatar or Ainz Ooal Gown from Overlord and it immediately becomes appearent just how little the author understands gamers. Anime like Shangri-La Frontier feel like real gaming and the characters feel and act like actual gamers because the author understands gaming, this author treats Allen as just another generic Isekai MC and not a gamer.
This episode made it all the more obvious. Allen got confronted with a boss way above his level, the Orc King, most gamers would probably do something like being on the move and dodge incoming attacks while trying to grasp the movement pattern of the enemy and see if there is any weakness to be exploited, when that doesn't work, retreat, do some leveling and then come back and try again, but what does Allan do? He tries to brute force it! Now don't get me wrong, brute forcing is something even experienced gamers do from time to time, but you know what's the difference? IN GAMES WE RESPAWN!!! Allan isn't in a game, if he dies it's over, yet he decides to use the most risky approach to the situation...and he doesn't even do that the smartest way. He doesn't come up with some strat like try to have his summons remain at a distance from the much too powerful Orc King and then try to take out the mages first to then engage the Orc King alone. He instead decides to just burn through his summons, mana and magic stones without even thinking, even though he sees that those are just ants to the Orc King and his tanks getting taken out by the mages he decided to ignore.
Bro would've had the most emberrassing defeat imagininable if the knight commander didn't show up, but of course Allen does not miss any opportunity to act like a dumbass. The commander clearly sees his summons fighting the orcs and he just...despawns them in front of his eyes? That would make sense if the knight commander was either A: blind or B: a dumbass such as Allen!
Also, of course we gotta add potentially corrupt nobility and government to the mix of tropes, gotta make it even more generic!
