First 12mins of this episode feels like it belongs to previous episode, then rest feels like a new episode. Looks like they re-adjusted them much later in the production pipeline.
Infact only 18-19mins of 23.5min runtime, it's new content. Like we are losing 2 mins per episode with filler and recap.
I can't help but think they rushed the production. Animation too is little downgrade compared to s1. More CGI infantry, less moving parts in the background, action also has less moving parts etc.
If you think the old to new content ratio is THAT bad here, you better not watch any older shows
What does that even mean? Outlaw Star had better animation (for its time) and it's from the 90s
I'm not talking about animation here, which still looks very good compared to all the other crap these days, but about the "Recap" section of this, for all the older shows like Bleach, One Piece, Dragon Ball or Naruto, you regularly have to skip to like minute 7, 8 or 9 to actually get to the new content, with this it was like one minute of content from the previous episode neatly flowing into the new content, so I don't know what your problem with that is
I would argue that that comparison is unfair, the examples you make are massive long-term productions where it was basically required to fill out episodes to ease the production and not catch up the source material too quickly
Whereas OP was highlighting that for a modern seasonal production to pad out episodes in this way is irregular
To be honest, I've seen worse modern examples of that than Kaiju nr 8, Black Butler in the last season had like unnecessarily long recaps at the beginning of each ep, yk like in the old days, to the point you had like 10-15 min ep of new content
Ah ok, that makes way more sense. Yeah, it's not bad compared to those shows, but they've also been airing for way longer and had competing timelines with the manga. At least with One Piece the anime is currently right behind the manga. Originally OP didn't have much recap filler. The difference here is that Kaiju No.8 manga is already done. I understand your point of view though
The animation is just amazing as season 1. This going to be training arc from this point but since this season only have 11 episode, we will reach the final fight faster than expected. So don't have to feel the slowness like the manga readers felt

Man, these last two episodes were peak fiction. Seeing the Kaiju n. 9 struggle so hard even tho he had so much confidence in himself, made me realize just how much of a menace the humans in this anime are, they get hit with a Kaiju nuclear bomb, and just stand there, unfazed.
The reveal with Kaiju n. 10 was cool, my guess is that they will use it for a new weapon for Kikoru, but seeing all the attention it got, and since it was a secret, it can easily be something way cooler.

S1 was great, it got me hooked to the story so much that i ended up reading the manga which is written beautifully. Now when s2 is going through one of the important scenes, death of Isao Shinomiya it feels like the direction of the show is lacking like feeling no connect towards the character.
