Getting reincarnated as an immortal zombie babysitter for the Demon King’s adopted royal baby has to be one of the most original "fates worse than death" I’ve seen.
Really hope this doesn’t fly under the radar. the effort behind it is obvious, and the premise is honestly awesome.
I'm surprised that that isn't the actual name of the show.
Glad it isn't, and the show seems to mainly focus on the beast in his endeavor to learn and understand humans.

Nice first episode! It got me interested in the worldbuilding. Why did the king want to attack the beast, and why did he answer in such a bad way? Hopefully it turns out to be a good show. Also, it’s nice to see slightly longer episodes.
Wdym why did they want to attack the beast? As humans we want to explore and expand, they literally dont know what is beyond their borders, its exactly the same concept as Attack on Titan for example.
The actual question is why dont the beasts annhilate them once and for all since they clearly can. The beasts, or at least Clevates, seem to think that the world order is good as it is, kind of coexisting; I wonder if the beasts have no desire to expand because they have already conquered the world and the only part not under their control is Edosea, which they dont mind, or they simply lack that desire
The same as how animals live in their natural habitats and don't normally attack humans unless provoked, the same applies to beasts and clevatess here.
I wouldn't describe the heroes as reckless; rather, they underestimated the strength and capabilities of the Dark Beasts. Their goal was to defeat these creatures to enable the world's expansion. They lacked information about what awaited in the Dark Area since all previous explorers had died and never returned. Therefore, these heroes weren't reckless they were simply unprepared.
Such a good first ep tbh. Excited for the next one and let's see how it goes. I hope it keeps up!!

Wow, definitely a surprise to this season i have never heard of the manga but it looks promising! + i really like the animation being kinda old or something.
An interesting anime Clevatess is because lord of the dark beast going on a journey with a humanoid baby alongside with Alicia. The animation is amazing and Shiraishi Haruka, Nakamura Yuuichi and Tamura Mutsumi did a great job as Alicia, Clevatess and Clen. Let's see how their journey goes in this medieval magical world.

I think I'll enjoy this, but that film grain can absolutely be removed
That film grain filter was part of what made the animation good in my opinion. It gave it a nostalgic, uniquely old-fantasy look.
I'm glad you like it, but it did nothing for my enjoyment. It's not a deal-breaker for me or anything, but I'd probably like it a bit more if it wasn't there. I don't typically watch newer stuff to want that kind of VHS/old-school effect present.
really enjoyed it up until Clevatess took the baby, and then turned into a "human" and took Alicia as a servant. Just not really my cup of tea when it comes to plot devices and twists/tropes. But I'll keep watching, that just kinda killed my vibe and made me way less interested.
Animation was great though really good art style, and the ost/va work was pretty damn good too.

At first it was boring, then it got interestiing and then it ended with isekai tropes and boring ass comedy...

What isekai tropes has it used so far? I stopped paying attention to isekai a while ago, so I'm not super familiar with the hallmarks.
The super strong guy, who, for some reason, gets beaten down by the lv1 idiot just for the "comedic relief".
The girl that gets molested due to a misunderstading or a stupid ass situation.
The weird group of characters that would never associate normally takes a trip together somewhere. and so on...
I got chills. They fucking nailed the intro fight scene way better than I thought they ever would. I was interested in the art style and aesthetic choice when i saw the trailer, and I fucking loved every second of it.
Fantastic adaptation, I love this story and can't wait to see this season out. I hope they keep this level of standard up.

Either way, this has piqued my interest. I want to know what's beyond the borders of the world, and also Clevatess's reaction when Alicia's willing to tell him why humans were attacking him, or at least her own motivations for doing so.
Also, while the opening kinda reads as a Skyrim reference, the post-credits scene extra felt like a Skyrim reference, complete with prisoners on a cart and one of them being gagged. And, of course, the line:

Clevatess literally copied the body of the kid's dead mother (with the addition of his signature horn) - he even explains this to Alicia. Definitely not a child.
In the subs I watched the episode with, the explanation was
[...] entrusted to me. By a child who looked like this.
Between that and the bandits using "kid", that's where I got my interpretation of "appearance of a child" from.
I'm also not certain that was the kid's mother, either. Other options include a wet nurse, a servant... And, with the same subs as before, the phrasing was "save the child", not "save my child", which isn't necessarily a sign they weren't mother and child but also means it's hard to know if they were.
Maybe the translation you watched offered a different interpretation of these events, or the translation I watched left out some nuance. But as it stands, the interpretation that was offered to me does suggest Clevatess took on the form of someone not considered adult, which makes any potential romance between him and Alicia awkward. I still ship it though.

Def will end up top 3 or 5 best new anime but I think it will be shadowed by all the sequels we're getting this season.
Oh this is way too damn good, I knew from the trailer alone it was worth a shot but the episode FAR exceeded my expectations, my only regret is watching a nighttime worthy anime during daytime lol
My only question so far is who's actually the protagonist? Initially I assumed Alicia, but now I'm thinking it's the beast, or all 3 including the baby as the title suggests?! Either way a story about archenemies intertwined with one another is so damn intriguing.
This was great, very enjoyable and exciting first episode to hook you in.
Amusingly I did reload the stream initially, before I realised the soft tone was actually intentional - soon got used to it, gives it a neat retro vibe.

Gonna admit, the fights were brutal. Didn't know anything about this show so I was surprised we got a double length first episode.
The premise definitely looks interesting and I'm intrigued to see, what Clevatess will do. I think it wants to see what humans are like. Of course with the country crushed the other factions start to move to secure the most known powerful weapons to them. Not that they stand any chance whatsoever against Clevatess.

He replied like a total idiot (for a supposedly "wise" king) because of prejudice, not knowing much and refusing to learn about the other makes you loathe them, not any different from racism.
Here where the clevatess comes on top, he's willing to learn.

No it was also present for explanations around the nations as well. It seemed not needed in some places. I don't mind if it's just for like 4-5 minutes here and there but it was like the entire first half of the ep

The translation was just confusing if you don't know Japanese, and the way some words are roughly, but not exactly, equivalent to an English word - in the actual dialogue, the way the word was used, together with Clevatess' way of speaking, would translate closer to "young one", as spoken by someone who is older. Basically similar how I see people in their lower 20s as kids, because I'm old. The same basic thing goes for the bandits, who are basically calling him brat, as he's young and new, while they are in their mid 30s+. I'd say the form is supposed to be late teens/early twenties. He does appear to have modified it into a male version, though.

And yeah, I can see late teens/early twenties as the apparent age. Which is reassuring to me because it reduces the awkwardness of me wanting the "enemies to coparents to lovers" arc XD
I mean, it's still awkward, given that Clevatess is likely thousands of years old, and she's only somewhere in her 20s. I'm only 40, but I'd still feel awkward getting involved with someone that much younger. And for someone like him, both of those ages would probably seem no different from a newborn - on his time scale, raising a human to adulthood is basically something to do on a weekend afternoon, after all.
Yeah, mayfly december romance (large age gap because of lifespan differences) also has awkwardness, it's just a different sort of awkwardness that doesn't bother me as much. At least in the context of "they're both (presented as) adults". (Even when I was assuming Clevatess looked like a child, I still interpreted him overall as contextually an adult.)
