I was thinking "this is just Rapunzel, where is the twist?", but when it happened it still caught me off guard
What is Aka cooking here?! I was expecting SOMETHING from the start because it was all just too happy and nice...
But the sudden horror creatures? I am interested!

A lot of time has passed over this sort of single chapter, which is interesting decision as we just meet new characters and almost immediately change pacing. Wonder how long the story is expected to last.
Anyway, somewhat interesting, especially ending. Alot of questions, why Mikel looks normal and at the same time does not mind the appearance of the rest of the village. Whats with witch, why she keep Rapunzel in tower. Whats with townsfolks.
My guess is it has to do something with the witch. Either she cursed the townspeople or maybe she cursed Rapunzel so she sees normal people as monsters.
Many ways this could play out but she's gotta be the reason one way or another.
Considering how Mikel behaves and how he talk about townfolks, it's possible that they do not look any different to him, as he would probably notice and comment that Rapunzel looks like him and not like them. Most likely it has something to do with witch, cuz thorns are shown around her and this creatures also features them.
The art is beautiful and the story is taking a different twist from the usual fairy tale retelling. I'm curious to see where this is heading but at the same time a little scared knowing that something tragic is awaiting.
40 pages for the most stock Rapunzel retelling imaginable just to end with an insanely predictable twist. Welp, this has a premise that isn't fundamentally broken so it's a step up from Oshi no Ko at least.
This was pretty good, the end was especially interesting. The art was great as well. I just hope Aka doesn't randomly get bored and tank it. My trust in him is 0 at this point lol
Judging from other comments it seems to have a planned length of 17 chapters so I am hopeful he can pull it off.
If that's the case it should be fine, I just don't think he's capabale of staying on track with a long running work. He seems to get bored when he's 75% done lol
This MIGHT just be Saya no Uta.
There are also other female characters in the double page spread, so it could incorporate other fairy tails, which makes sense given the title.
17 chapters
Well, omitting chapter 0 which is pure exposition and introduction, first real chapter has around 20 pages, which is not much. If the rest 16 will be similar in length there is no much to work with in case of an intense and multithreaded story. Will see, but my interest has dropped a little.
Or it gets axed... I am in the minority but I still miss Renai Daikou. It could have been pretty good but they took to long to set up the story.
