I've played both Steins;Gate and 0 VNs. Definitely enjoyed playing through both of them and exploring the endings. Music was pretty good too. I'd have to say that there was a huge difference between the 0 anime and VN content-wise and quality-wise for me. So I would at least recommend playing that.

The answer is hell yes. I have not seen the anime but I started with the VN instead. Got all the endings for both this and 0. It's really worth a checkout if you really loved the anime.

Definitely. The VN has even more thorough worldbuilding, scenes cut from the anime for time reasons and a lot of alternative endings that are absolutely worth checking out.
The Steins;Gate anime adaption is great, and while the VN does have a little more content, it is not like the anime is inferior to the VN. If you like the VN format and would like to reexperience Steins;Gate, definitely go for it, but don't force yourself to read it in the belief you are missing out on something. Also be aware that the routes for the other "heroines" in this VN are small "what ifs" branching of the main story, so don't expect much of them.
For Steins;Gate 0 I certainly do not think that way. The anime felt rather lacking compared to the VN and there were a few important omissions. The VN is much better, so I would recommend reading that over watching the anime.

Steins;Gate Hen'i Kuukan no Octet is a text-based adventure game/VN with retro PC filters and chiptune music. Quite fun little game/VN.
Steins;Gate Hiyoku Renri no Darling: a romcom spin-off, you can find a translation of the VN on youtube.
For the original Steins;Gate, I played the VN after watching the anime and despite being told it was a "must play" I really regretted playing it. The anime adaption was very faithful d the VN didn't really have much content that wasn't in the anime that i needed to see. I would've enjoyed rewatching the series again more. For 0, yeah I guess the VN is better but IMO, 0 is far worse than the original in every way so either way i wasn't into it even though I watched and played 0.
I had steins gate 0 for ps4 in my shopping cart yesterday but i didnt buy it in last second. Maybe i should have damn! But i got shenmue 3 and spirit hunter ng at least.
The source material is definitely better for both. In Steins;Gate 0 it's by a huge margin, but even with Steins;Gate the anime lost a bit of the darkness, particularly some of Okabe's internal monologues during a certain part.

yes because there are actually multiple endings in the game.
there's also way more scientifical dialogs and/or otaku references in the VN, which is something that you may either like or not like.
playing it (or not) is more like your personal preference, both anime and VN are good and you don't need to watch/play the 2.
for steins;gate 0 though, I would highly recommend to play the visual novel as the anime has a few problems explaining some stuff.

I finished S;G vn 2 days ago. Comparing to other vn I read I dont have anything good to say about that... But I also hated anime and personally dont like romances. Read Higurashi, The House in Fata Morgana, Fate/ Stay Night. They are the top tier.

I just started playing the VN and I gotta say it's way better than the anime. And the anime is already absolutely amazing. If you like the anime I 100% recommend buying the VN things get explained a lot better and more in-depth. Been playing for about 2 hours now and I the anime covered all of this in about 2 episodes while making it seem like they didnt cut any content which is kinda crazy.
Visual novel also has a bunch of cool alternative endings and scenes

100% agreed. I've written up a review myself (got a lot of downvotes), I was very disappointed with the anime.
That wasnt my point tho. I think the anime is amazing I was just surprised that the visual novel was even better.
I read your review (for the most part) but I do have to disagree. Not gonna give it a downvote tho as I understand some of the points youre making. However I watched the anime twice before even touching the visual novel and not once did I feel like anything was missing. I wouldve never even thought that it used to be a 30hr visual novel before it was adapted into an anime and everything was explained really well imo. Yes of course the visual novel is better its 30hrs long compared to the anime which has a total runtime of about 10hrs. I feel like the anime cut corners in the best possible ways. Nothing thats crucial to the story has been cut in the anime otherwise you wouldnt understand whats even going on and like I said, as someone who has actually watched the anime first I think I can talk about this more than you. Just because the visual novel is better in literally every aspect doesnt mean the anime is automatically bad. You gave Kurisu's speech in the beginning of the visual novel as an example and while I loved reading about all the different theories of time travel, it wasnt really necessary for the progression of the story and the anime still gets the main point of the scene across: that Kurisu is a lot smarter than Okabe thought. I can understand why you might be a litle disappointed but calling the anime below average (45/100) is quite the stretch imo.
Well, I've played the Steins;Gate VN and I still think the anime was better, mainly because of the mood it was able to create and VN wasn't. But it's true, anime has changed a few things (personally, I think it was for better) but it didn't really skip anything relevant. There is a reason why it's rated so high, after all.
