Fitting that I would post this on fathers day lol.
I am sick to death of the the Tokyo Ghoul fans saying how sympathetic he is and how he had oh so much good in him just because he loved his damn family. His cruelty was appalling and anyone who can't see it or refuses to acknowledge just how much of a bastard he was needs to seek some serious help. Yeah yeah I get how he was supposed to show that even someone undeniably rotten has people that love them and they love. I am aware that this is basically what the writer was going for , regardless of how ineffective and poorly done it was by a literary stand point. It made him MORE EVIL imo. Here me out on this. He went through the same thing he put Hinami through and it twisted him and even deformed ( literally ) him into a beast that lived only to torment ghouls who he saw as less than filth. Hinami a child! a bloody child! Overcame this hatred right in front of his eyes and what does he do? He mocks her even more and goes on about how he will take her kagune and use it with her parents kagune's and made fun of her for having lost her parents. He mocked a child who he put through the same shit he went through while trying to murder said child!!!!!!!!
You defend this?! REALLY? He saw ghouls as monsters and talked about how they "imitated human emotions" yet he then turns around and mocks them for crying and having said emotions ect. So which is it? What does he believe? To him do they are don't they have emotions? Well we both know the answer here. He knows god damn well that Hinami ect had emotions and that's why he makes them suffer. He purposely goes out of his way with Hinami to psychologically torment her and her mother and mock them as much as possible. It is clear as day he is being as cruel as possible to provoke their emotions. He thought of Ghouls only as monsters and in the process became a near pure absolute irredeemable monster himself.
I here fans go on and on and on about his supposed good aspects. Like what? literally "He loved his corpse of a wive and his daughter. He according to fans seemed to care for Amon and other characters said how "proud" he was of him. He was proud of him because he killed ghouls. Oh he left him special quinque...................to help him kill ghouls. As for loving his family 97% of human beings love their family. That does not make every single last person some beautiful wonderful magical happy little ginger bread man who pees rainbows. Anyone with such cruelty and malice in their hearts who literally LIVES to kill and torture a specific group of people as much as possible is about as evil as a person can get. Or need I remind you of a little thing called the Nazi party?
Think of this scenario and try to tell me with all honesty that you believe in him. Say for example Amon had secretly been a ghoul and Mado finds out. What do you think he will do? DO you really believe he will forgive Amon? Have you really seen enough good from him to out way the vile evil we saw from him to such an extent that you can put him on saint level? I have heard people who actually believe Mado would have forgiven Amon!!!!! How can anyone be this dense? I just don't get it. Do you really pardon him for how much of a cruel heartless bastard he was to a damned child? You guys really forgive this scum because awwwwww his wife died........... Booh hoo! People deal with this type of stuff every single damn day. For god sake doing what Mado did would be the equivalent of if say my mother was murdered by some unspecified ethnicity/race ect ect I than decided to start seeing an entire race as less than filth and decided to kill as many as possible as brutally as possible until I got to the one who killed my mother. I would kill children and anyone as long as they were the unspecified race. I would be as cruel and mean as possible and murder them terribly all the while relishing in their despair even though that same despair is what I went through.
There will be people who will talk about how the Ghouls are not beneficial to society and how they eat people so we would all kill them ect ect. They will also talk about how Touka and many others are no better than Mado. There is some truth to this actually and it is even brought up in the series. We all know Touka has done some really horrible stuff i.e I killed because I was bored or had a bad day or felt like it ect ect. All this being said there are a number of factors to acknowledge here. For starters she is a teenage girl who is not even fully developed yet in her mental capacity. She is not yet at the stage of an adult when she does this. Children make horrible mistakes and at times do mindbogglingly awful things but again they are not to the mental capacity of an adult yet and often lack the maturity and empathy. Another factor is Touka had deep regret and self loathing over her actions while Mado just slaughtered ghouls with that deformed grin of his all the while relishing in their despair which he then claimed was false but how could it be he is enjoying their suffering? Lastly in contrast Mado fell further and further into cruelty and hatred whereas Touka got better and slowly moved away from what she did in the past even if bit by bit.
I don't really have much else to say but I gladly await the inevitable S***storm I am bound to get just because I condemned and mad man who literally lives to kill and torture.
Fitting that I would post this on fathers day lol.
I guess since its anime and not real, people tend to see these sort of characters as cool and edgy. I love Esdeath from AGK but she's done lots of cruel stuff in the show. Irl, they are the worst and no one likes them. People will try anything to defend their fav char. but no one will sympathize people with same personality irl. They'll try to find some deep meaning to their actions so people will agree with their opinions.
I hate Asuka Langely from Evangelion. I don't understand why people like her. She is so irritating. I skipped almost every scene with her in it. I know she has a reason for her behavior but instead people praise that behavior..why? Same with Bakugo. He's basically a bully in reality but people like him cuz its anime.
I sort of loved Asuka actually and felt sorry for her. I saw her as a pathetic child which is to me what she was. After all she was 14. That being said though I get where your coming from completely. I kind of hated Shinji when he decided to destroy the world in end of eva. ~!!~
There are very few characters I hate like I did Mado. I mostly feel something for most of these characters. Hell Mayuri Kurotsuchi is one of if not my favorite character and his only redeeming quality was that he loved his daughter/creation in his own way but was too embarrassed to show it. I think they did a really good job humanizing him and I found him to be relatable due to his personality ect.~!!~
I can't bring myself to not hate Mado though. I think for me the clincher was what I mentioned in my post about him.
You don't seem to be able to understand the actual context of the story and characters so you'll just ignorantly hate on a character like that. If you are so fixated in your point of view you'll just stay there even when you are so wrong. Have fun not knowing how to understand literary context.
@Ragian Triggered much? I understand perfectly what they were trying to go for with him. I just can't accept the man and hate him just like he hated the ghouls ironically enough. I know there was good in him ect ( though so minuscule as to not be worth mentioning ) however he refused to see any in ghouls and tortured a child psychologically as much as possible. I mentioned in my original post how I saw the good in him and how that to me anyway made me hate him all the more because when confronted with a child who overcame the same despair he felt his reaction was to try to brutally murder her and torture her psychologically all the while mocking her feelings. He was not human anymore. I would have enjoyed it if he lost his daughter too so I could see him cry and suffer even more and than break whatever he had left keeping him alive as a mass of tears as he pines for his wives fucking corpse , unable to do anything but suffer and cry like the child he tormented so cruelly. Forgiving him to me is the real evil.
As cliche as this sound he belongs in hell ( not that I necessarily believe in such a place in reality as I don't ) and he stopped being a human being long ago but instead became something just as evil if not more so then his ignorant and biased view of the ghouls. He fell too far to be forgiven by any normal sane human being and anyone who can't see how rotten what he turned into was is the truly ignorant person here. Have fun not knowing what an opinion is. Typical overly cynical pretentious holier than thou Tokyo Ghoul fan.
Keep defending that demon with your legions of overly sympathetic children who can't admit how many faults Tokyo Ghoul actually has because it's oh so edgy. ( I really do love Tokyo Ghoul but come on every story has it's faults and we all know many of the biggest faults are in the fandoms. ) Which is why we have so many people ship Kaneki with Tsukiyama instead of the canon ship.
Would you really defend him in real life I wonder? Yeah it's a fucking story but I wonder would you so readily defend this creature if he were real? If so I would say your a better man than I though in actuality no as it is mere prostrating enabling of a maniac who abandoned the right to live among human beings long ago. What you seem to oh so conveniently miss in what I am saying is I know full well what the writer was trying to show but I rebuke that as a person and could not accept Mado and In my own opinion to forgive him would in itself be nearly unforgivable.
I can forgive and love nearly anyone. Simply not a vile lunatic who psychologically torments a child to death after slaughtering her mother in front of her and literally LIVES to kill a race or group who he deems as less than human and less than even scum. I find it near impossible to forgive people ( if we can call them people ) who kill innocent people or target an entire group of people for whatever reason. I can't forgive cruel murdering , genocide and discrimination against anyone so fucking sue me.
I know the ghouls are not saints but in the end many if not most just want to live. As I mentioned Touka is a CHILD so yeah Mado was at least in his 50's. Who can we more readily judge based on their actions?
Is it so difficult for you to see someone who knows exactly what something is and even understands it but still refuses to accept it? I know what they were going for with the bastard but I can not accept a demon in the skin of a man who lives to kill a race he deems inferior and when faced with a mirror of his situation his only response is more cruelty.
Why is this so hard for you to get? Are you a complete imbecile or just blind and death? possibly severally mentally challenged or something? Honestly I can't see what is so hard to get here. However I'm sure you'll just retort with more brilliance about how I simply don't understand the literary context.
@Ragian You said he's wrong and didn't even explain why. There was no argument made, only condescending comments. You contributed absolutely nothing to this thread.
@Alaerias Thank you! for this comment.
Before even reading the post I looked at the title and wondered "People actually sympathize with that dude?". I agree, just because he loves his family doesn't give him a pass to being a pos towards ghouls.
I guess, since most people never had been in that situation (luckily, I wouldn't want), the "killing" is just fictional and for enterainment or they view it as a part of the story. Many people never thought about it either, I think. They judge characters, who don't want to kill or hesitate... just aren't fond of lol Because it's not "cool" and they might think that it would be an easy thing to do (physically and emotionally).
I also prefer characters, who try to avoid killing or hurting others by casualities, if it's a possible option in the given situation, or characters, who feel remorse... or just anything. It makes them far more human and less of an axe-crazy psychopath.
I also always disliked Lucy from Elfen Lied for example. The author wanted us to feel sympathy for her, but I couldn't feel anyhing else than disgust for a raging psychopath.
But you can't defend someone by saying "hey, they aren't adult yet, so they.." what? Not knowing what they are doing? She is surely old enough to know that and she is far, far away from being a child. If you had a teenage neighbour, who kills someone, because he is bored for example, you wouldn't say this.
@ManekiMewchan Sorry I am just replying now but I was muted for a few days so I couldn't reply. I too dislike characters who kill , well evil cruel characters who kill anyway. I do however like good guys who kill bad guys. Like Kenshiro for example is one of my favorite characters in anything. Even if he feels sorry for some bad guys he still killed them if they were really really evil.
Anyway I actually agree with you on Lucy. Even though I did feel a tiny near non existent amount of sympathy for her I still felt relieved and down right pleased when she died. I think her dying was the only way it could have ended. She just kept killing over and over and over and we were supposed to feel sorry for her because she was bullied? The turning point for me was when she killed Kota's sister. I think that even she knew the only way for her to atone for anything was to die. As for " Nyu " appearing at the end Nyu was originally the side of Lucy that was innocent so that side may have somehow been spared. Regardless Lucy needed and deserved to die.
As for Touka I was not entirely excusing her actions but merely saying she is the lesser of two evils here. Also as a ghoul she had been conditioned to kill and eat humans so there is that. Also and I know that many may disagree with the " she is a child " aspect which at one point could have even been used for Lucy ( up until the bitch reached a point of yeah no sorry bitch you die lol ) but it is true that a young persons brain is not fully developed at Touka's age. Again I really am not excusing her but merely condemning Mado for the evil monster that he was.

@H1GHLander360 Not to come across as " rude " but why bother posting this? It just shows you don't have the attention span to read a long post.
People sympathize because they know he does horrible stuff, that life is unfair and that some people literally go batshit crazy if people they care about are killed. At least I feel sad how he ended, what he become.
Humans and ghouls both do horrible stuff in this anime/manga and it only made more crazy humans and ghouls doing horrible stuff.
I can sympathise and understand the motives of Kureo Mado but that doesn't mean don't i hate his guts
Wait. Was he the one that wore the gloves all the time and had that look of “ I steal children and do NAUGHTY things to them”. That was him, right?
@BushiShuritto Yeah that freak with the evil grin and like one eye looking bigger than the other or something yeah. Really hate that bastard and he got off far far too easy.
Lots of text, zero arguments. Only emotions. "They're just children!"
I still don't understand why killing baby man-eater monsters is bad.
These "children" would have eaten your parents, then you would have a different opinion about the ghouls.
Mado did nothing wrong. Mado is a hero. He is someone who just did his job: saving people and exterminating monsters. And he was very enthusiastic about his favorite work. Best character in this anime. The hope of mankind.
"As long as it's for the right cause, there's nothing wrong with playing dirty." (c)
Try to object.
Mado is not a hero and here is why , a hero doesn't kill a child while taunting and tormenting it and enjoying it's suffering as much as possible. A hero won't relish in the suffering of a child as he mocks her parent's death. Even if the ghouls are so terrible for eating people nothing changes fact that Mado was the type of person to torment and murder a child.
There's no forgiving the level of sadism he showed towards Hinami and there's no excusing it. He was scum and his death was far far to quick and painless. Mado was clearly overly vindictive and obsessed with revenge. Even in the narrative these actions were painted in a negative light. That same narrative that pathetically tried to make him sympathetic also condemns how far he had fallen because of his hatred for the ghouls. Lastly if you truly believe the ends justify the means you're not even worth talking to.

@deleuze Ooh you sure showed me. Yeah think whatever you want. This post has as many likes as it does for a reason and there's more people who hate the son of a bitch than those of whom who like him. The ghouls are not inherently monsters but Mado became a greater monster. Think what you want and go ahead and insult my intelligence if that helps you sleep at night. The fact that you went right to " low IQ " mentality shows which one of us is the stupid one here. Anyone knows IQ scores have long been criticized as poor indicators of a person's all around intelligence.
Keep harping on about how Mado is good because he killed " monsters. " Keep harping on about how he's a hero .... a hero who relished in someones despair and suffering. All he ever was was a hateful man who wanted revenge because he lost his wife to ghouls. The only thing better than him dying would be for him to have had to lose his daughter too and fall even deeper into suffering only to finally die after months if not years of torment. That's the thing , that mentality would make me no better than him but in his case I'd make an exception and out him through hell. The one thing stopping me would be that his daughter doesn't deserve to die. Mado himself deserves the slowest most painful lonesome despair ridden death imaginable.
