Really liked Suou's fighting style
Amazing episode. Nuff said.
Really liked Suou's fighting style
I legit started the manga up until chapter 35 cuz I couldn't wait to see the next fights animated.
Manga art is actually pretty awesome though. The fights did flow pretty well but yeh.
I would have thought the running gag of Sakura getting constantly undercut by everyone would get tiring, but surprisingly, it hasn't been! It's like every other character is saying "Lmao good for you, have a cookie!"
I live for Suou content
Chunni eyepatch kid is a psychological terrorist lmao
At a loss of words for this episode.
The choreography, the animation and the music, are all so well done. The fight scenes are just one of a kind, the music fits in so well, and they are so wonderfully animated too.
But i think the main highlight gonna be the MC vs the glasses guy with black hair. Can't wait for that one.
I knew I would like this series from the first episode but MAN did this most recent episode pull me in. Suou is such an interesting character and I love his fighting style; that with the monologue he gave sent shivers down my spine. Having him be the "gentleman" when it was clear that he was looking down on his opponent and making fun of him was so cool.
The fight animation in general was insane; the animation, music, literally everything was so well done. Sugishita's fight was much more boring, but I still appreciated the light mood it provided before shit went down. Super excited to see the rest of the fights and how Sakura fairs in his! If I had to make a prediction, I'd guess that everyone but him loses their fight, which makes him have to learn what he's really fighting for.
Will definitely be picking up the manga as soon as this finishes airing (though I might have to start it immediately if the quality stays this consistent!)
~~~This guy is the reason I ended up binging the entire manga in a day. Suo is the GOAT of this series. A total Sado with extreme Ideals.
Highlight of this episode is definitely Suou's fight against that gang member, bro absolutely violated that man both physically and mentally.
Animation and choreography went hard as well, can't wait for next week's ep
I really love Suo's fighting style. If anyone is curious about what fighting styles might have inspired the choreography in this fight, I can definitely see the Aikido/Aiki-jujutsu and Taiji in there. Lots of redirections and joint locks, and the takedown at 19:02 is textbook Aiki-jujutsu, but it's probably a mix of mostly Northern Chinese styles.
Besides the Taiji, there is definitely a lot of Wudang, the family of Chinese martial arts that Taiji fits under. Some of the redirections, like the one at the beginning of the fight, feel more like Baguazhang, especially with the circular footwork. There were also a lot of shoulder bumps and a leg catch that are reminiscent of Bajiquan, which is very popular in Japanese pop culture. Most fighting games feature someone who uses Bajiquan techniques, so it's very recognizable.
The "one-inch punch" at 18:53 could be Wing Chun, but more likely, it's Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, which incorporates Wing Chun, inspired Rock Lee's fighting style in Naruto (matching Suo's stance with one hand behind the back), and fits his mixed-style approach. The side-kick finisher was definitely Bruce Lee-esque too.
A lot of the takedowns that aren't joint locks, like at 17:04 and 17:53, feel a lot like Shuai Jiao, which is a competitive standup wrestling style very similar to Judo. The leg catch at 18:48 is textbook Sanda, aka Chinese Kickboxing. Lots of Shuai Jiao and Sanda techniques come from other Northern styles, including Northern Shaolin and the aforementioned Bajiquan and Baguazhang. In general, if a movement in traditional martial arts looks weird or impractical, it's probably a grappling technique.
On another note, I like how grounded this fight scene feels for an anime character using kung fu. Most of the movements aren't exaggerated too far beyond their real-world counterparts. While idealistic, Suo's hands-down fighting style seems plausible with really good head movement, and not to shill traditional martial arts too hard, but a lot of the techniques in isolation feel like they'd work IRL.
This anime has some really good fights. They might exaggerate the characters' strength and agility a lot, and fighting hoards of people alone would be downright stupid IRL, but the actual fighting styles themselves feel grounded and believable for their body-types personalities.
Bro... man's destroyed the boy in so many ways
Absolutely stunning episode, possibly one of my favorites this anime season. The choreography and shots during Suou's fight were so beautiful to watch!
Trying to figure out who did the vocal track during that scene though. 90% sure it was Foggy-D, but couldn't find anything in the credits.
Regardless, such a fun episode! Really made me like Suou a lot more !
Suo's fight song name?
Suou is cool as heck.
That was informative
Amazing comment, also shows how seriously the studio is taking their fight choreographies
