Old people reminiscing in anime, something I never know that i wanted
not my thing sorry dropped lol
I can feel your "fedora tip" through the screen after you went so far just to show you are different from other people, for thinking that one of the biggest anime hits in years is bad, ugly and has flat characters.
Not gonna lie, it's really ok for someone to not be into it or something. But to just come to disscussions to announce it, it feels just too forced..
Not liking something, doesn't mean it's bad.
Did anyone else read that edgelord review he made before it got deleted? It got ratio'd into oblivion xD
Voll: “Do you remember his face? His voice?”
Frieren: “Of course I do. Are you mocking me?”
Voll: Mocking? You misunderstood. I envy that you can.”
.
Dang, that hit hard.
The Voll part was so well done
I believe Old Man Voll vividly remembers his wife's face and voice. While reading this chapter, I came across a comment online that provided a thoughtful analysis. Following his wife's death, Old Man Voll experienced profound grief, feeling like he had ceased truly living for over 80 years until he encountered the hero's party. The conversation with him about defeating the demon lord serves as a metaphor for Frieren, reflecting the significant impact of Himmel's death on Frieren and the subsequent changes in her character.

I get what you mean... But Find battle spells, skills for what? Its the Era of peace(ironically this topic is actually touched in a huge detail later on in the series as well to basically comment on the stupid notion of fighting uselessly)
Combining Stark and Fern strength is already something that has been a thing but this series approaches fights a bit more realistically. They are still beginners so they need to learn first and in episode 9, it was clearly shown that being "more powerfull" doesnt mean you are going to win... so she trains more then the skills that need years to master... just so they can win actually.
Also combat is just one of the uses of magic....
Other then that its the journey of Frieren trying to understand people through Himmel so ofcourse he will be everywhere. And no characters are far from bland... Just that they are not overdramatic with forced or contrieved emotions with crying or yelling which we normally see...
If anything the dynamics flow naturally. (I wonder if people actually are even watching the show... probably feels like all the complainers streamed it at 2x speed or skipped several parts)
It often happens that we forget something and it is often something important, but in reality I believe that something you know and care about cannot really be forgotten, it always remains in a small corner of the brain and reappears when you least expect it, as it was for Voll. I hope Sein doesn't leave the group even if the title of the next episode (after the break) makes me fear that this is the case.

Loved this part with Frieren and Voll, just so good
Looks like Sein will the party in the next episode, damn :(
#~<a>"People dont risk their lives for things that dont matter"</a>~
~An episode that focused on old people by reflecting on their attachments of youthful years and how those attachments can last generations. Again the theme of loss is consistent while taking another form with an old man protecting the home thats precious due to his long lost partner. Though its a common theme which is used in literature sometimes, its always welcome in stories imo due to the emotional weightage it carries. Also considering how this story forshadows stuff, the old man saying to defeat the demon king def has some implication apart from him being senile(or I am just overthinking) but will see.~~"I am a stubborn Old woman you see" And ofcourse the story itself is complimentary to the main character considering how it can be to straightforward sometimes(cracked me up ngl)~~But all in all the weight of carrying memories was def the best part which was portrayed beautifully again... Gosh every week this anime reminds me why its so awe inspiring. In a nutshell another great entry but a bit less impactful then the last 2 episodes(expected considering those 2 were just the epitome of beauty)~~~
So you mean to tell me I am supposed to go a week without Frieren?
I went 29 years of my life without Frieren, 1 week is not that much.
Facts
This was good after the dagged through the heart that was the last OP chapter.
I HATED THESE QUESTS IN MONSTER HUNTER!

Edit (Changed the meme because this fits better)
Took bro 16 episodes to come to this conclusion LOL
Wake up babe, new mental illness just dropped!
gotta love the effort to go into the most recent episode of an anime that you've dropped's discussion

I mean no offence but....
I have never seen someone misinterpreting, not understanding or utterly being unaware of the main objective of a story this badly before....
But most of your "assumptions" will be proven otherwise later on so not going to say anything.
Though for starters please revisit episode 1 to 4....
Also I am curious to what characters you consider "great" since the kind of story you propose has a plot of a typical battle shounen.

its the authors job to make the point clear
Episode 4: Journey destination Auberst. Story objective to seek the land where souls rest....The entire last sequence (almost 13 minutes) was dedicated to that with the main character stating that in literal words so if you still didnt get it then its not the authors fault
Certainly a show is in great need of socially aware characters or major life changing events that reflect better on Frieren's character if that's the intent.
Are you implying that traveling for 10 years to defeat the demon king, losing the companions she truly cared for or considered family and playing a major role in the era of peace are not major events of her life? LMAO its a story that takes place after the big bad with a character thats not human + is emotionally immature due to isolation for a 1000 years... Lets just start there for a change and I am sure it will make many things clear.
Characters are subjective so not going to bother but if I start explaining Himmel`s role, I would have to rewind the entire episodes from 11 to 16 (with to many words to the point it will become a huge essay)and frankly you would still argue...
Its not an action oriented story or a stictly sol one but about time fleeting and with a touch of philosphy sooo idk what you expected but you def have no idea what you streamed(probably watched it at 2x speed or skipped half of it ig)

They already have powerfull spells lmao, magic in this world can be used through effort, complicated spells needs a lot of time to learn.
I agree with the flashback scenes and talking about himmel it’s kinda annoying
This isn't a shounen adventure to fight monsters. That's part of the flavor but the main purpose of the show is to reflect on the life of humanity, what makes us who we are, how our memories are more important than the mere quantity of the years we spend and more. This is about self-actualization and musing about what it truly means to do that. Some characters are props to explore these principles in a metaphorical way for us to both understand and be entertained at the same time.
Much more eloquently said than I; story-crafting is more service than purpose.
Idk man, Sein's not deep (yet) but he's a weight that balances out the maturity of the group. I thought it was nice that he was able to cut through the immaturities of the party like a hot knife through butter. Not to mention, storytelling in this format doesn't lend to quick character depth, and he joined recently. I think the strategy is to give the audience snippets of their adventures, both past and present, as these all pertain to Frieren's development and main theme of the series. Agree to disagree, but I see a vehicle (Frieren) moving down a road while the passengers (main parties) take in the sights along the way. The main party is going to get developed over time, and you're gonna have to listen to your parents talk about "the good ole days" without a book's worth of context.
