the art style is definitely flatter which is hit or miss for me so far, but my only real complaint about the animation this season was some of the weird "slowmo"ish cuts in episode 3

exactly especially when amanai got shot Geto's face literally took 10 sec to change it's expressions whereas it should have happened immediately

    i feel that the animation of the reaction time on Geto's face was bit slower but it doesn't matter anyways maybe I am wrong.

    No disrespect, i just felt the need to comment bc you're hurting my brain. His late reaction to her getting shot was intentional. The scene was slowed down when she was shot and bullets travel pretty quick! Since the scene was slowed down we were able to see his brain process what had happened in real time. It was all intentional. Again no disrespect but I don't know how that went over your head at all.

It looks like Mappa just want to get over with their job and they are in a hurry.

Anime is made by people, not buildings. And I can assure you these people are very passionate about what they do and they put a lot of work and care into it under very tight conditions. There is an artstyle change this season which means less comp (aka less filters, not washed out like S1), no awful 3D backgrounds and colors which pop more, but also simplified and looser character designs giving each animator more freedom to draw the characters like they want.

You may not be a fan of this aesthetic, but that doesn't mean that this is unprofessional by any means, this is just a different and frankly also more efficient approach, the schedule for this show is already bad enough as it is. Looser designs and less workload for the ADs works greatly in this shows favor because the staff working on it is extremely skilled. They can trust their animation staff that they will do good animation and drawings even without an AD correcting each drawing, checking that it's 1:1 with a sophisticated character design.

TLDR: It's okay to dislike this aesthetic change even if I respectfully disagree, but don't make disrespectful assumptions about the staff.

yeah I feel that the change in aesthetics is the real reason behind my review I gave above and I didn't mean to disrespect any staff I respect their level of dedication.

I don't understand this type of gatekeeping, really. Instead of just insulting them and adding nothing to the convo (if you have nothing to say but rude stuff, maybe just keep it to yourself?!) you could have maybe explained why you disagree or maybe tell them more about animation/visuals/comp so they maybe understand your pov more? If you don't care to do that, fine. Then just don't comment.
Edit: I forgot to say it but this also applies to the comment above mine, although this comment is much more rude which made me point it out.

The current animation is good, but just not as enjoyable/detailed as in Season 1 imo. I dont get the same level of hype with the current animation compared to S1's. Which is pretty disappointing considering Toji vs. Gojo happened in Ep 3 today

If yall go to watch Scarlet Nexus or whatever and actually watch it please then come back and see if the animation is bugging you or not, legit people are spoiled by what they're given now

for me it's entirely the opposite, season 1 looked too commercialized and marketable, season 2 looks like they're trying to make a piece of art

It amazes me that no one pays attention to the obvious. There has been a change of Director. He asked me to tone down the details in exchange for fluidity. The animation quality is great, what has changed is the style.

The art style is different for these 5 episodes as it is the "past" arc, which definitely gives a change of experience. This has honestly been a hit or miss for so many people, but it hit me. I still consider this as a really refined and passionate project, but people have their opinions and I respect that. Though you've complained a lot about it here lol, it's not that bad brother

Also, even if you think there is bad animation, there's like hardly 1-2 scenes. Just look at the cinematography they did in that Gojo's blue scene in the recent ep, they haven't even done such an amazing job in S1, I was awestruck tbh

Because Seong-Hu Park isn't directing anymore. He did Season one and the movie.
Also I think the art style at least will go back to "normal" in the Shibuya arc

Well... I wouldn't count on that.
Season 2 has a way tighter schedule compare to first season, hence the art style change (less detail, more character movements). And considering EP 6 and 7 is planned to be recap episodes, seems like the production is going rough.
As you've said, the director changed as well, so we shouldn't expect the same kind of "atmosphere" and storyboarding from this season. The new director (Gosso) is known to be an extremely talented person, but given the schedule, Season 2 is going to be rough nonetheless. I'm sure they're putting all of their best talent and hardworks into the important episodes of Shibuya Incident but... fingers crossed.

Bro what are you talking about? I was complaining about the inconsistent artstyle in ep 1 (which I dont think is an issue anymore) so I kinda understand where you're coming from, but the animation is easily on the same level as S1. The fight between Gojo and Touji looked insanely clean and had really smooth animation and overall really fluid movement with basically 0 CGI, what exactly where you expecting?

The team behind this season decided to simplify the designs so that they could focus more on movement. While the first season had very detailed scenes, they often ended up looking stiff and kind of janky. And also the compositing for this show looks much better than it did in season 1.

No one wrote a real answer, so I'll try. Animation style changes a lot in 3 years and MAPPA has done a lot of anime and changed personnel. I definitely wouldn't say S2 looks bad. It might not be your personal taste (or the same as animation was when you started, everyone likes anime from when they started the best) but that doesn't mean they aren't trying.
