...god I can't wait for Shide to die. also, Shadow Mio's becoming one of my favourite characters lol. She's honestly better than the original (sorry Mio).

The most saddest episode until now.
Shocked seeing how everyone died in this episode and then Shinpei was forced to do (I think) his last loop and managed to save the majority but sacrificing Hizuru.

Only 5 episode left in this journey!

Also could the Haine's reaction to that light coming out of Shinpei's pocket mean that Shadow Ushio is still alive?

Now that Shinpei's looping ability has reached its limit, I wonder how things will unfold from now on, jesus christ there's only 5 eps left yet there's still no signs showing that everything is gonna be over soon yet.

Great episode this week! It was to be expected given the staff list. We got a few high-quality episodes in a row now, hope this trend continues till the end!

I really enjoyed this episode aside from technical aspects as well. I'm very very glad the main focus of this ending-arc isn't just the action and they are giving much attention to thriller-y aspect. One thing that I always praised this show for was the ability to keep the tension up and keep the viewer interested, so I'm very glad this is still a thing even in this late part of the show.

The whole "battle against time" thing in this episode was so well-managed it got me really hooked on to the screen. I'm totally loving the way they're managing shadow Mio, it's definitely one of the most interesting characters in the whole cast, speaking of which... Hizuru's death was very well done.

The first half of the episode, so the first fight between Hizuru/Ryuunosuke vs Haine/Shide gave some insights on Hizuru's character: the guilt she felt for Ryuunosuke's death was surely nothing unexpectable, but still an importatnt trait to deepen her personality and reasons to fight. It was also very cool to see Ryuunosuke getting his own shadow-body.
This "conclusion" of her character set up for her actual death later on, and I really like it. I liked how her death had this "final" feeling to it, unlike other deaths that could be reset with a loop. I think the viewer is really able to empathize with Shinpei there because essentially we're in his same situation: "death" was sure heavy but still a "temporary" concept up to this point in the story, for both the characters and the spectators, so it's hard to accept the reality where everyone can't be saved anymore. This could actually be a good turning point for Shinpei's mentality, and talking about him, I really like how even panicking for Hizuru's death, he kept acting in his characterization and was able to cool down in the end as he always does.
I didn't really catch what's up with Ryuunosuke's "soul" now, but we'll see, I guess.

Hizuru's death is a real game-changer for the plot, she was such a leading character for the cast I'm interested to see how they're gonna act from now on. Also the story seems to hint that in the end Shide will be on a different faction than Haine, so maybe that's gonna be part of the solution for this final arc?
Also, I had a theory about Ushio after episode 18 which basically supposed that the Ushio we saw at the beginning of episode one printed herself as Shinpei's eye, then gave birth the the shadow Ushio we know, so there were "two Ushios" all along, and Shinpei's eye was bleeding because it kept the damage shadow Ushio took from Shide when she died, but all that seashell and glare stuff from the last two episodes seems to prove me wrong, so I currently have no idea what that's about. Another thing I'm looking forward to.

Episode 20 was an excellent adaptation (like the last episodes as well) adapting from chapters 107 to 113 included, adding a few scene and cuts. I really appreciate when an anime adaptation is faithful to its manga counterpart in terms of story and characters, but doesn't use the manga panels to directly storyboard the anime, going for a more medium-appropriate approach instead. Really well done.

I loved this show from the beginning and I still love it much, only 5 episodes left and I'm really looking forward to them :)

this beginning was VERY ABSURD
Hizuru has now become an x-men, did she transfer her brother's consciousness to Shide?
and how did he not die with so many blows, being quartered but when the human body appears, he is whole? he is said to be human wrapped in a shadow but how does he prevent the original body from being destroyed? It's like putting a toothpick inside a clay and twisting it, the toothpick breaks....

in the end she transfers her brother to Shinpei? meeh, I accept the supernatural aspect but that was too much, what's the explanation of these powers?
now Shinpei has also become a mutant?
epi was good but quite absurd when you think that there are humans who are not humans...

I can't explain much but basically, the way Ryuunusuke was transferred to Shinpei is like the same concept as to how Haine was transferring Shide's memory from one Karikiri to another Karikiri lol

  I bugged that explanation, how did he transfer the memories from one body to the other? (It was a lot of information at once for me)
  I also bugged how he lived forever, he copulated with haine, a new Karikiri was born and passed the memories again?
  In short, Karikiri kept having relationships with an alien in the form of his daughter over and over again? '-'

This anime always keeps me on edge. You Simply cant predict what will happen next like this is just too good. its sad to see miss nagamo to die. but if everyone can spawn back there woudnt be any stakes regardless love the show. 10/10

Hey so I have a question, why did Shide and Haine run?
Ive watched the whole show and rewatched this episode and a few others a few times, and it seems like a huge plot hole.

So first of all, Haine is not Shide's biological daughter or anything but he is her guardian. Shide, in his 40s, sort of adopted her most likely after her family died because of the famine.
Haine was copied and "eaten" by Hiruko soon after.

From here on, Haine means shadow Haine/Hiruko:
When Haine grew up, altho not sure what age exactly, she and Shide married (coz that's how they do in the 1700s lol).
They soon had a son who then grew up to be the exact replica of Shide, physique-wise (that's the shadow nature when a shadow and a human interbreed).
Since the son is literally the same as the father, Shide came up with a plan to transfer his memories to his son thus restoring his youth. And he, with Haine's help, did this over and over again until present day. Thus, it is more befitting to say that it is Haine copulating over and over again with her son's body but with Shide's memories lol.

So with the way they did, since og shide was human, Haine copied his memories and instead of printing it using a shadow so he could have a shadow body, she transferred the copied memories to their son so he could still have a human body (that's why his situation is very similar to Hizuru and Ryuunusuke).

Hizuru then did the exact opposite on their first fight. Instead of transferring Ryuunusuke, a copied memory in her, to another human body, she transferred him to Shide's armor, which is basically a mud, to create Ryuunusuke's shadow body (the same way as to how a shadow would birth another shadow).
Then in the next loop, Hizuru did exactly what Haine did to Shide and the body of their sons. Hizuru transferred Ryunosuke to Shinpei.
And Hizuru was able to come up with this plan because of the information they gathered from Dr. Hishigata when they confronted him.

in the next episode they said that Shide's original body would still be "alive" or preserved, so can it be said that he didn't die exactly? but only his shadows/children died?
only this part of the transfer of consciousness from Ryuunusuke to Shinpei that I thought was forced..but the fact that he already has super strength and fighting ability is already a bit forced...but ok
but I understand perfectly that the alien copulated with his son several times LOL
