To be completely honest, this show didn't go in the direction I wanted it to have gone at all.

At the start I was really hoping it would be a well planned out mystery, but once they threw in the supernatural aspect it just started going downhill. At this point there is basically zero mystery aspect to the show and it's all just action, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but makes for a very surface level show. They are constantly giving new abilities to both sides on the fly as some sort of auto balance and at this point Ushio is so incredibly broken with her laundry list of abilities that she might as well be the actual god of the island instead.

I'd really hoped maybe Sou's dad had some sort of secret plans, but no. He's just some spineless idiot.

I'm gonna stick around because it's still an entertaining show, but I've lost all hope that this show will get any better than just "good."

I don't get your point. The Mystery was like 75-25 in the first half and somhow becoming 50-50 with the Action.
I mean... After solving some mysteries, finding answers... you better act.
The supernatural aspect was there from the start... If time traveling is not supernatural, I don't know anymore.
I don't get your idea of downhill. The goal was pretty clear : Save the village, aka defeat the enemy, and clarify Ushio's circumstances.
- They understand the enemies
- They understand their circumstances
- They are looking to defeat the enemies
"constantly giving new abilities to both sides"
Are they? Feels like it is "unfolding", rather than "giving". Those abilities were unknown to us from the start as they existed without us knowing why or how; now they are being articulated and explained. Without those abilities, how do you expect a random teenager to defeat a supernatural being and to comprehend how this latter established her setting for a total massacre without notice ?
"Zero Mystery aspect"
- Why Ushio is broken (faulty)? like OP?
- How the heck did he get the magical eye to time travel?
- How Shide and Haine became a thing?
- Ushio, Haine, and Shide's full potential?
- etc.
What more mysteries are you looking out for? It's not like there no more mystery, but priority is to actually manage to "do" something pragmatic with the "practical" knowledge gained.
You don't go read a book when the food is burning on the stove : PRIORITIZE.
It will be really annoying if they focused on making a Shadow encyclopedia instead of making sure the Tragedy does not occur again considering THE LIMITED time given and the constant life-threatening surrounding.

I like how Shinpei is learning from his mistakes and is very calculative about everything he does. He knows if he fucks up its game over.

I doubt it. I think the ending will be them saying goodbye to her and the other shadows.

Pretty good, and some solid character development for Shinpei. He's really grown from being sort of impulsive to more calm. But that level of calmness when finding out his parents were murdered, and one of the accomplices is in front of him...that's not normal. But then again, given all the insanity Shinpei's gone through, it's reasonably to expect him to not be normal at this point.

This anime is pretty good but what I hate the most is that everytime I think this is supposed to happen it doesn't, it's annoying but I think this anime is getting better week by week

Some people are complaining because the story have turned into more "action" rather than mystery as if that should be something bad. I bet that if the anime would had keep the same pace and unfolding just a few little secrets since the first episodes then people would have come here to complain about it too.

I still think this is the best anime of the year so far (not counting sequels or animes with further seasons of course).

So Sou's dad was on the side of the shadows because he wanted to save his shadow wife (who conveniently didn't know that she was a shadow herself)... definitely didn't figure that one out like 10 episodes ago.

Where have I seen this before...

~!Plus he also wanted to live as a shadow himself with Hiruko and his family in Shadow-land or whatever? doesn't that mean that he and everyone else has to die? be replaced by a copy of himself; as far as I know a shadow does not inherit his actual consciousness, it just makes a replica of it. So, by that logic, the ones enjoying inmortal shadow paradise will be the copies not him per se, he will be as good as dead...

Sounds pretty dumb, not gonna lie.!~

This episode was pretty solid but I'm sort of sad, because this anime transitioned from mystery to action quicker than I thought it would. It still is very good though and I hope it sticks its landing.

i dunno if it's totally abandoned the mystery element just yet. i haven't read the manga but the ending of this episode just seems to set up for a shide backstory episode as the next, which, obviously will both raise and answer questions throughout.
additionally, as @AngelLiveur said, there's way more unanswered questions like why is ushio broken or "the egg?" how did the shadows come to be? etc.
time will tell i guess

  Of course, I didn't mean to imply that the mystery aspect of this anime was over, I just think the way things are going it will become less and less prominent in the next few episodes, as it has for the last few.

I really liked this episode, but I will say its pacing is speed-running the plot right now. It's not necessarily bad though, I think it works for the type of show, but I definitely feel it needed to be stretched out. I think something is missing in some way like we are skipping a step? I don't know, it just feels like it. Overall I really enjoyed the reveal of how Shinpei's parents died, except I wish it wasn't so casually dropped and had a bit more apparent weight to it. Right now it seems like he was totally unphased by that revelation of information. Perhaps that's just his ability to shove the sadness to the side and focus on what's at hand, but I would have liked to see that resistance visually represented.

I am excited to see if the pacing is good for the next couple of episodes or not. I feel like the build-up is a little lacking so far. It may be different if you binge watch the whole show at once though.

by the way, excellent episode, some colleagues above felt a bit rushed, but I can't say the same, i would have to read the manga to know but it was cool

I love Shadow Mio talking all about things that the real Mio feels. That Shide reveal was quite Meh, but let's see his backstory in the next episode I guess.
