the game they played, old maid, it requires the players to get rid of all their cards especially joker card. although getting rid of every card is impossible so at least you can keep one final card but not joker. Now in each set, out of the two joker cards, if they get rid of joker by putting in unsorted list of cards on the table, the match will draw. But happening that is extremely low, thus one of the player always ends up with the joker. Now during card exchange, and unsortion of cards, they either get rid of joker by passing it to other player or putting in on unsorted list. Also putting the joker on unsorted list, the next player will take a card and get joker and this goes on and on, untill all players remain with one card which is not joker and only one player end with two cards, one of them is joker, if that player also doesn't have joker that game is draw.
Now in tomodachi game, yotori was hypnotized by the old man, so he took every card of yutori except the joker and she always looses , making the team loose. However in the end, yuichi knew the joker placement so that yutori does not get any joker card and the joker ends with the shinji. yuichi took that joker and with this both shinji and yutori won, except the last deal between yuichi and old man remains. the old man chooses the joker and looses, this was pure coincidence as he was revealed a mere magician and could make mistake
