There is such a strong suspenseful feel to the thriller scenes, and it's in part because of what happened last episode - the narrative has shown that it has no reservations about killing Shinpei at any point during the episode, so all of the encounters with the Shadows carry a genuine sense of wondering whether he'll die this time around. Not to mention, that camera photograph sound effect is also mixed and timed perfectly - it lingers JUST long enough that it conveys the sense of danger without overstaying its welcome, and the fact that the audio pitch keeps getting higher and higher is just as unnerving.
Shinpei also has a propensity for thinking on his feet, even if it does make him a "buzzkill." Trying to investigate the various places the woman may have visited is a good clue, and if he should get killed again, being able to keep track of who is who and where they went is quintessential for defeating the Shadows, whatever they are. Especially since they can assume the identity of the one they kill, keeping track of movements is vital.
By bringing Sou into the fold, things have definitely gotten better in terms of the investigative side. We do not know however what it was that Sou wanted to learn, or if it was indeed of any consequence. Also, increasing their number runs the risk of a Shadow being able to get closer to them. All it takes is one of them to make a vital mistake, and lo and behold, it's game over for that loop.
A little character building going on as well - we see the dynamic between Sou, Shinpei, and Mio take on romantic connotations. While it may not contribute too much to the sense of escalation, the series still needs to take some time to build the relationship among the core characters. As such, a little digression from the main plot is okay, especially since the festival backdrop provides a sensible place for people to congregate and the characters to lower their guard a little...promptly erased by Shinpei seeing Ushio, assuming that it is indeed her.
For now, we press onward!
When he went upstairs to find the shadows, I was expecting a jump scare. It was so intense.
Am I stupid or didn't Mio already know what shadows were? She asked Shinpei and Sou what they were
The actual dialogue she says is "Nannan kore? Kage te? Nannan?" which roughly translates to "What is this? Shadows? What?" Contextually, I think she's asking more out of disbelief and exasperation that they've proposed that any of them could be Shadows, rather than confusion as to what Shadows actually are.
Another banger episode. The animation is superb and the directing is able to keep up.
It was great to see another member added to the investigative cast. It seems that the direction they will be taking with the loop power is like that of a mystery shounen.
That cliffhanger was quite well-timed. 5/5
I would keep dying if I get to motorboat those jugs every time I woke up.
Beautiful episode, easily the best one so far.
Upstairs scene was so well handled and the cliffhanger gave me goose bumps with the ending.
very good episode, it gets better and better
this show is just getting better and better
You just can't predict what's gonna happen !
jenshin impact must have a large sphere of influence. didn't expect to be seeing klee here lol

I really like the show so far. Atmosphere is on point in most scenes. Upstairs scene was so intense I was expecting a jumpscare and from what I read here, I wasnt alone feeling like that. Good Job. Though too much fanservice for my liking. Kinda ruins immersion for me. Still, overall I really like it. Can't wait for the next episode
It's just getting better and better. And to see a Smart Protagonist for once. Wow. He already was on the move in the last episode but still, it's something we don't get to see from other(Subaru) protagonist.
Also, is it me or Sou is already a shadow? I feel like he got turned when He went to investigate something but it turned out to be nothing.
Interesting, could be possible
yeah somehting feels off about him i really think he is one him or the other girl
We have to wait and see for that one.
