After watching the newest episode. I agree with this so much...
I wish that they'd "de-edgy-fy" Ayanokouji. In the light novel he's depicted as an ideologist (likewise in the anime) but that doesn't rule out that he's indeed capable of emotions and understands them rather well. The anime did only, more or less, focus on his inherent psychological abilities because it was made as a CM more or less, and mystique sells well. Now that we're expanding on this series animated medium I'd wish that they let go of that untruthfulness and properly depict him as his one of the most complicated and intriguing characters I've ever come across. Narrowing that down to Batman-esque "fuck emotions mind-games 4 life" doesn't do it any favors.
Secondly, while it's not something to "fix" I'd wish that they don't mess with the chronological order like in the first season's pool episode. Ranting spoiler:
Seriously, that whole episode in the light novel was a huge factor in Kei and Ayanokouji's relationship but they tossed it in as some fan service
Otherwise there isn't anything monumental that I can think of right now that should be changed. Animation and visuals would be nice if they could keep up the quality of.

I personally didn't hate season 1, nor did I enjoy it as much as enjoyed the first 3 volumes. Of course, it was quite rushed, and made things more dramatic than necessary and left episodes on weird cliffhangers sometimes.
Like, for example, the ending with Ayanokouji standing and telling his inner monologue, "But Horikita..." It just hit a bit harder in the light novel, when he said it while carrying Horikita and not to mention the blush.
Another example is that they hide everything until the "big plot-twist." They really saved Yamauchi throwing mud on Horikita until the very end. I'd like them to stop that.
Also, the thing about Ayanokouji not showing emotions? I do believe it is more of a self-defense mechanism like he's afraid of not showing emotions and ending up becoming like "That man"So honestly, I feel like it'd be better if he showed emotions, as it is a kind of important to understand his character. It's not like I disliked the anime for changing that aspect, but I think it was the wrong move and should be changed back.
Honestly, there are also the smaller details like the class not being 40 students like in the LN, I'd like them to change that, as it is important for the Zodiac exam, which is also my favorite exam, because the entire trick, to solve the exam kinda requires everyone and also how would they split the groups up?I think the easiest way to change it, is simply by doing nothing. Like just acting as if nothing happened and having 40 students instead. Same with Episode 7, I don't think it causes that much trouble. There is really no main female lead, to my understanding, and Kei first started playing a more important role during Volume 4. So just adapt it correctly?
I'd probably also want them to include all the Nagumo scenes for the next season, as they are always peak, tbh.

Nah, I think already fucked up horikita. She had one of the best character developments in the whole series. But yeah the last episode horikita scene deviated from the novel and we can all see how much of an L that was.

yeah the anime messed up only really developing horikita and no other character really like even small interactions were changed which kinda introduces characters and how they are in some sense
Honestly if the LN had no illustrations in my mind Ayanokoyi would behave almost exactly as he does in the anime... Tho in my mind he speaks on the same volume as everyone else

Well they cut a little too much no? Adapt the first 4.5 volumes into 25 episodes and call it season 1 and all the problems are solved. They even turned half of 4.5 into filler and shoved it into volume 2 somehow... I think they could tone the molesting scenes way the fuck down, that super creep that was stalking Sakura barely has any presence in the LN but in the anime they dedicate like 10 full minutes to him, no one wants to see that stuff, other than that the anime cuts most of Ichinose roles in favor of Horikita, and the anime could really give us more Manabu since they like him so much already even if it's all non-canon lol. And lastly give Mashima sensei his manga design.

Redo the entire sports festival arc it was garbage in the anime, they rushed through it and the paper shuffle to spend most of the time in The Search for X. The molesting thing still applies they dwell on the bullying of Karuizawa for way too long, I'd say is only justified when Ryuuen does it... Although maybe the waterboarding was going too far... They should give Ichinose her win in the zodiac test, they kinda messed continuity by not doing it, I get the feeling the anime ppl don't like Ichinose. Other than that is the same as S1 make it 25 episodes from Volume 5 to 8 since volume 9 starts the Sakayanagi stuff it makes things more clean.
One thing idk how to feel about is Ayanokoyi molest Karuizawa a lot more in the LN than in the Anime, on the one hand I don't mind they cut it, on the other hand is fairly relevant for the plot so maybe they should have kept it especially since they have no issue at all showing those kinds of scenes already
Even if they were to suddenly adapt the LN characteristics of Ayanokouji I wouldn't expect it to result i a TG:re type of situation. He "just" needs to stop being so chilly and totally void of emotions. Throw in some soliloquies where he reflects over his reactions to different situations emotionally, not only rationally. I don't expect (or want for that matter) him to suddenly become one of those awkward MCs where just being eyed by a girl makes him question if she wants to marry him.

Hell no "Edgy" Ayanokoji is fun to observe. You never know what hes really thinking and theirs a sense of tension because of it. Not everything has to be exactly like the light novel a few differences make it fun. Hes plenty complicated in the anime and in the light novel he has plenty of mind games. Its overexaggerated how different he is from the light novel or that hes less of an ambiguous character. I mean look at that punching scene in the trailer and compare it to the ln novel image. In the Ln he shows a smidge more of emotion but compare it to a normal person and his facial expression is pretty cold. He also has never been shown to make a real or even fake smile in the ln. he has that bland look like in the anime even when he holds Kei's hand'sHes exactly like in theLight novel except that in the ln he fakes emotions a lot more in the ln. He's plnety cold to other people in light novel when they are not people that he cares about or are not his friends. Season 1 aside from having things out of order and erasing kei(Neutral on her but she is one of the most important characters in the story) was great. Fix those 2 things and its an ez 9-10 anime

Not when that's the only thing that's going for him. In the same way you get bored by overpowered MCs in e.g isekais it gets saturated when he's only cold, only playing mind-games and only focusing on himself in the anime.

This time it has to, otherwise it'll suffer the same fate as Fate Unlimited Blade Works did where Shirou's soliloquies where terribly undermined, lackluster and (crucially) essential to the story but nowhere present in the anime adaption. Ayanokouji's monologues are the core of CotE, and not utilizing the whole picture of his thoughts and ideas in turn undermines the anime's presentation in my honest opinion. It doesn't have to be word for word, chapter for chapter accurate, but the wiggle room is tight. Books adapted that way doesn't translate well over to a filmed medium, but the anime does have monologues and they worked in season 1 so just represent them more accurately instead of pleasing depressed emos.

Disagree. Anime Ayanokouji could be dissected down to "I'm smart, have a mystery past and emotions are just a tool for me to utilize" while the light novel depicted a different reality. One in which he's affected by the new environment, new people and most importantly it makes him question earlier notions of his deep-rooted idealistic views. The anime makes it seem like he's solved the human psyche and could never be wrong. A character without flaws is set up for failure, that's why isekais are (were perhaps) hated, but light novel Ayanokouji was flawed. Horikita is just a more "visible" version of Ayanokouji in the end of the day, if that makes it easier for you to understand.

That's what makes the light novel moment better, letting his emotions slip through his ideological facade because he's genuinely angry with [those who know who, knows] for what he did. That would just appear so out of character for him if all he's ever been is cold, edgy and rational. He would never had gone to such lengths otherwise.

True, but I didn't advocate for him to literally show emotions in form of expressions. I wanted the viewer to get to experience his soliloquies to understand that he ain't that edgy as he appears to be.

Season 1 didn't only erase Kei, if I understand what you mean by that. They just threw her in there like she and Ayanokouji had been establishing a relationship already when that pool sequence happened after they'd even started to talk with each other.
It's flawed, exaggeration or not. They're handling such a meticulous piece of literature that if the director didn't happen to be the author himself then changing anything to the characters or story would be a mission set out for failure. It's a light novel that deserves to be adapted well, because it's quite frankly a one-of-a-kind.
You make some very good points. But what i meant by exagerratd is that people act like the season was terrible it was decent its just that if adapted better it would be amazing.Guess will see what happens when it gets animated maybe they have learned.
Thanks for the civil acknowledgement, that's rare nowadays;) But yeah you're correct in that some light novel die-hard fans really try to make the anime out to be a total flop, which I personally don't agree with. I think that they'll regardless make a good second season, though only time will tell if it's amazing. Lerche (the studio behind the CotE adaptions) is more competent than not, which gives me hope.

Reading that after S2 aired and knowing what they rlly did makes me sad. Especially the last part about Nagumo's scenes getting adapted 'cause we all know they cut it down to 30? seconds of him shortly introducing himself as the new president after Manabu and cut everything else besides...
Even the dialogues between Manabu and Ayanokouji about Nagumo, I think there should also be some of those in vol. 4.5 to 7.5 which they didn't adapt.
I can't imagine how they will adapt S3 tbh, if they don't increase the episode count higher than 13 Episodes S3 will be a disaster
