Wow, the animations were great! 10/10! Best camera work I saw in a dialogue episode! 86? Fate/Zero? Make way, we have a new king in the town!
Here are some screenshots from the episode:![]()

Perhaps I treated Episode 4 harshly... Animation was almost non-existent in this episode. One of the worst animated dialogue episodes I've ever seen.
Praying on the downfall of all who oppose Eren.
Amen to that...

This episode wasn't bad, but anyone who isn't named Jean I just hate. Hange's entire argument is essentially just "Yeah, I know if we stop Eren everyone on paradise is gonna die, but guys genocide is bad, it's fine if the rest of the world genocides us but if we do it to them that's where I draw the line". Goddamn, I hate the alliance so much.
Very minor spoilers for the next few episodes
I really hate how after this chapter the alliance gets all friendly with each other, they essentially act like they're best friends. Levi never once calls out Annie, Reiner, or any of them for killing his comrades, he just acts like the "grumpy old uncle".
There’s a difference between being on the receiving end of genocide and fighting back and being on the side initiating the genocide and letting it happen.
Bruh, If Eren didn't attack first, they were gonna die, and now if they stop Eren from completing the rumbling the rest of the world is gonna kill them anyways. You read the manga so you already know the outcome of everything, and you know who was right and who was wrong
It doesn’t matter who was right and who was wrong (it doesn’t directly tell you and shouldn’t have to), they just don’t want to sit back and let the world be murdered, even if it would benefit them.
There is no right or wrong in this, Hange has a point here. I will always understand where Eren is coming from and why he's doing what he's doing but killing thousands of innocent people solely because of their race will always be wrong no matter what the situation is and you know that. Eldians were treated wrong for years and yes if Eren didn't do anything about it they would continue to be treated unfairly but that still doesn't make genocide right and that's Hange's point. There are tons of awful Marleyans but there are still innocent people there, especially children that don't deserve to be killed by Eren. I don't hate Eren for it but I don't agree with him either and neither should you. I haven't read the manga but these are my thoughts from what I've seen so far.
I never said who was in the right or who was in the wrong, what I wrote is that certain characters said certain things and it was later revealed if their statements were correct or not. Also, we all know genocide is wrong, even Eren knows that, I never said what he's doing is right, all I said was that Hange and friends were all idiots for turning on him. If they stop the rumbling, paradise and all their loved ones will be destroyed, but if they don't stop it, paradise will be safe and the rest of the world will be destroyed instead. Innocent people will die regardless because the world in AOT is messed up. I'm on Eren's side because I as a viewer spent 4 seasons with him and his home, I don't care about the rest of the world. Also, I can in fact agree with Eren because It's FICTION, I really hate it when people bring real life into things like these.
never said who was in the right or who was in the wrong
and you know who was right and who was wrong
Interesting...
All I'm saying is you shouldn't even be on Eren's side, you clearly didn't listen to anything I said. Also, just because it's fiction doesn't make agreeing with it okay, genocide happens in real life and it's horrible, thinking a character committing genocide is in the right shouldn't be okay just because it's fiction. Aot is a complicated show that makes you sympathize with Eren and somewhat "justify" something that normally can't be justified but that doesn't give you the right to think it's the correct thing to do. Listen, I love Eren and I'm not necessarily against him entirely I just hate some of the shit he's doing and I don't understand how people could agree with him.
Call me dumb but alliance really looks the most reasonable here. As was said, there were both ways in which bringing Eren down would end - destruction of Paradise (most likely) or apparent peace but: it's hard to think only about lifes of your friends and family if cost of every one of them would be millions lifes of people you didn't ever meet - even if you're a soldier, even if you're a general. I understand emotionality here and if both sides had "stop Eren" as their major goal, no matter of reasoning, I think becoming allies is nothing weird.
As for me whole conflict is way too complicated to think of better or worse options, I guess under such a pression every decision looks possible, being both reasonable and unreasonable at once.
I think becoming allies is nothing weird.
It's not them becoming allies I have a problem with, It's that after this chapter they act like they've been friends for years by being all friendly with each other never once questioning what they've done. Also, they essentially just forget that Eren is doing this for them, they treat him like he's been their true enemy this entire time. And don't even get started on that terrible romance with Annie and Armin.
Yea, I hate the alliance too. Their desired outcome is extremely idealistic: by stopping Eren they will stop the genocide and the world will be terrified into submission for a few years by the Rumbling, buying them those few years to make up a new plan. They'd rather throw the future of their own people into uncertainty (and arguably in a worse spot because the entire world will definitely hate them now) rather than guarantee their safety. The scouts have been fighting to unlock the entire rest of the world for the people of their island and prevent Titans (which are released by Marley) from destroying their people, Erwin is not a happy spectator and neither am I :/
This is a great episode. It reverses most of the issues with the previous one: the “save the world” thing is challenged, Annie has more tense interactions with the rest of the group (although not as good as it should have been) and the pacing slowed down to allow the moments to breathe.
The motivations of the alliance is much clearer now and makes sense, and Jean’s character building in this episode was good.
As a manga reader, the next few episodes will be something to look forward to.

It's a joke about the abundance of shots that are just trees.
ah. I haven't watched the season, so I guess I wouldn't get it
Hange's comrades in the background and all the focus is on erwin and that other geezer, whilst my man moblit had no respect
Gotta be honest... felt like a build-up episode (again).
But that doens't make it bad i'm just really waiting for the ''plot'' that everybody is talking about
Were the paths revelation episodes not enough plot? At this point, just cruise, thematic climax already happened. Us getting another couple of huge moments after S3P2 is more than I could've asked for going into it
I swear, 9/10 AoT forums have a mean age of 14

cruel=/= good.
An ending where a genocide happens would simply be dark for the sake of being dark and would undermine the themes of the series.
And really, you haven't seen the worst of the fandom if you think they just want it for the story.
Going by your logic A happy/bittersweet ending =/= good either.
And really, you haven't seen the worst of the fandom if you think they just want it for the story.
You're absolutely right, I feel like murdering everyone in the world right now
Defnitely.
All I'm saying is that, at no point, did AoT advocate for genocide and it's take on war and violence has always been dialouge first. Even if violence would continue on the long run, we as people just need to find ways to understand each other.
An ending which ends with genocide would spit on the story and evrything it stands for.

TEC?
Didn't expect much from the anime adaptation for this whole segment but ... damn those were nice trees.
The best family talk.
And branches are really cool as well.
i’m okay now but next sunday i won’t be :(
same feels here
Mikasa finding another man?!? I don't want that!
We really needed some bass-boosted Ashes on The Fire this episode. How awful to be Eren, having your lifelong friends side with those who massacred your hometown. This was quite a heavy-handed one, all things considered.
FLOCH :

I did enjoy this last episode tbh. Even though it has no crazy fight with outstanding animations and soundtrack, still shows how both sides feel about this genocide instead of just going straight to the "war" to stop eren.
Hange: Jean, what about seconds? Lol.
This was a solid episode even if it had one too many stills. Managed to be intense nonetheless.
Loved the campfire scene and its intensity. The way I see it, last ep, in the pie scene, they avoided talking about the hostilities between them. However now that they finally talked this through, Jean has gotten over his hatred. I wish Levi did more tho.
Finally, the ending at the Yeagerists; makes me excited for the next episode.
I think this episode shows some key development for the main group of characters. In Return to Shiganshina, they saved Armin instead of Erwin because they let their emotions and attachments lead them rather than looking for the option that will save the most lives, but now they wish to save the lives of people they want dead because they don’t put their personal interests before the safety of humanity.
Is actually sad to see what Reiner has become, I still remember how he was looked up by the boys, specially Eren :c
Hange and Levi made everything less awkward and deppressive tho lol
Most boring episode of the season so far, one like this irritates me the most, because you wait a week for nothing and then another week for something. Wish everyone released full seasons. Wasted time and money to animate cutting potatoes...
The one thing Netflix does well
Reiner the regenerating punching bag
Ayo, don't freaking say it's Mikasa In Jeans memory. I'll kill if that's true

You sayn Jean still has feelings for Mikasa??
He was dumbstruck when he saw her the first time during recruit training arc, he tried to make a move but she outright ignored him giving a cold look, then Eren showed up and her face lighted up when she was talking to him. Jean got jealous because of that and that's when he started hating Eren. In this scene he also touches Connie's back that freaks out thinking that he glued something on it.
It has some history, but to be honest romance wasn't really a thing in the series besides Mikasa losing her mind because of Eren, so any romance that pops up now will feel pretty weird and "forced".
Also, I just found out that Jean drew a girl that really looked like Mikasa when he was younger before even meeting her, and Mikasa and her mother were the only "Asians" on the island. So there's an old theory that the paths affected everybody long ago leaving some future memories on them, on Jean it might been Mikasa's face. Because it's highly unlikely that he was creative enough to come up with that without even knowing that her "race" even existed.
So Jean's dream in this episode might be a flashback of the future because of paths.
Here's the video of him drawing Mikasa's face when he was younger:

Always has
So in the "have an anime from your list and you say your favorite character" forum game
I was given AoT S4 part 2
My normal go to favorite for AoT was Levi.... but at the time I was presented this I had spent the whole season wondering if he was even alive so I grasped at straws and said "Jean?"
After this episode Jean might actually be my MVP for this specific season after all.
I never said who was in the right or who was in the wrong, what I wrote is that certain characters said certain things and it was later revealed if their statements were correct or not.
Come on man all you had to do was just read the next part of the sentence. "Is right" and "Is in the right" are two completely different things.
Also, just because it's fiction doesn't make agreeing with it okay, genocide happens in real life and it's horrible, thinking a character committing genocide is in the right shouldn't be okay just because it's fiction.
Oh my god, this is the whole Joker (2019) or even the "you shouldn't play shooter games because shooting happens IRL" thing all over again. I don't understand that whenever a fictional story is a little realistic you people have this weird mind set to compare it with actual real life. What, now are you gonna start saying that people can't sympathize and support Joker's character because mass shootings and violent riots are a thing IRL? F*ck off. Back then so many weirdos started saying that this movie would cause a lot more of those things to happen IRL, and you know why all those idiots were wrong, because people know the difference between fiction and reality and they know when to separate the two. Whenever people bring real life in to these discussions I just don't care what else you have to say, because to me you don't have any actual good arguments to make. Lemme quickly reiterate, I absolutely can support Eren because he's a fictional character in a fictional story. Just because genocide happens IRL doesn't mean people who support Eren are okay with it IRL, they're with him because they like his character.
Also why doesn't anyone ever do this with stuff like John Wick? What, is it because It's an action movie that's why It's okay? John Wick doesn't need to kill anyone, but he does it anyway and that's what makes those movies fun. I don't see anyone ever saying "you shouldn't support John Wick because killing happens in real life".
~!(Forgive me my English in advance, please)
Things like fast becoming friends with your enemy happened over the years even during our own history. In '40s, during Christmas, both British and German army on the war fronts came out of their trenches to throw a party where they were singing Christmas Carols, drinking beer and overall having time of the war. Weeks later British leadership had to throw their troops to new locations because soldiers didn't want to shoot to their bros. (and it wan't lone area, in many places theoretically enemy armies did the same)
Diffrent situatons, I know, but I just want to show that becoming sudden friends with enemy of your lifetime isn't something absolutely out of the line, things like this actually happened. (Propaganda during WWII was impressive, so just how bad opinion some of the ruffs had to have about their foes and how many of these prejudices they throwed away back then?) So, that's why I think of it as possible situation.
It's also literally "enemy of my enemy is my friend" position, which I don't think is stupid during wartime. You don't have to kill each other at the moment when there's way greater enemy on the horizon.
(There were hints of Armin and Annie all along the way, I think it's kinda natural it end up like this. In my eyes it's neither really bad nor really good.)!~
Yes I know this stuff happened in real life, but I'm speaking as an audience member and that this is a fictional show. Imagine in Avengers Endgame that Thanos kills all your favorite characters and suddenly Galactus emerges out of nowhere and now he's both the enemy of Thanos and the Avengers. It would be so jarring as an audience member seeing our heroes being all friendly with the previous villain. You'd think "Didn't he just kill most of your friends and half the population of everything, why are you being so friendly? Show some hostility at the very least". That's essentially my problem with alliance.
Phylosophical problem with alliances is if you value your numerous dead friends' lifes, their honor and years of mutual hatred more, or if you'd forget about them for sake of present - quite dramatic - situation. Saving today or saving yesterday, when you have no idea how either of them is going to end for you. Everything is diffrent when you're under enormous pression and during a war, many foolish decisions may happen. Newest episode shows what I think the most, they decide if they want to bury their griavances for a moment or if never-ending grief will outweight this "ray of hope".
I still stand with my opinion alliance seems reasonable here, but I understand why you'd not think so as well. If Mare and Paradise soldiers killed each other at the end I wouldn't have any complains regarding their choices, really.
Start of the story: Eren wants to protect his friends.
Middle of the story: "You guys are important to me, more than anyone else."
End of the story: Eren fucking kills them?
