[Spoilers] Steins;Gate 0 - Episode 20 [Discussion]

Hmmmm, ok. So let me see if I have this right here. Okabe failed time leaped and his memories get stored in the computer in some form of flux. We then go to a different worldline, in which Okabe didn't do the failed time leap and gets Comaed later on in 2025 and kept on life support. Then the computer is found, and Okabe's fluxed memories gets unfluxed and end up in Okabe 2036. I think that is how things worked out here, kinda confusing personally. I still don't like the death fake-out stuff anyhow, in the VN or anime. Still feels kinda like a cop-out to me that was simply required to figure out how to make things work out.

The episode definitely felt like it was kinda rushed. They really seem to be trying hard to get the future stuff done quickly since they are out of time. Would have liked to have more time with the characters in 2036 then we did have.

Overall I don't really like the 0 anywhere as much as I liked the original. And I think this comes down to me also not liking the VN as much. They both feel like they aren't as complete of a story as the original. And at this point I feel like we need to consider the 0 VN and anime two completely different canon worldlines. Since the anime has so much changed from the VN while just kinda casually following along general plot points to reach the same spot. But hey, at least somebody who reads the VN after the anime will get to experience something new.

From my point of view, they dragged it too much and now everything that happens feels out of place. It's a complete mess with bland characters, ridiculous action scenes, fucked up plot and random anime related jokes.
It may look like Steins;gate, it may be called in a similar way, but it ain't it. Not by a long shot.
The first one knew where to place funny moments, serious ones, how to give hints, how to build up to some important event, and when shit went down, it was one hell of a ride. It was mysterious, full with real life references, CERN, John Titor, even scientific theories, his whole mad scientist persona. Even with all this good stuff, the thing that I liked the most was the way they presented the discovery and the small experiments which led them to time travel.
At this point, there's nothing that could happen to save this show for me.

Well, Steins Gate 0 is adapted from the VN, and in the VN there is many endings, they couldn't do one season for each ending. So to keep those who played the VN, they needed to do something special, something new, like they did, by mixing all of them (i didn't played the VN, so i'm only quoting)

And for the action scenes, well, tbh i don't like them that much as well, but keep in mind that this is nowhere near the first season, there isn't the same characters, the same development beetween them, or anything. So, the faris that you wouldn't see hurt anything, in this anime (for me it's like another anime, even if i love it) here, can kill ppl, because she is not the same as in Steins Gate.

That's really up to how you enjoy the format in the end. I agree, the original S;G had a great set up of mysterious, exciting plot, interesting characters, funny banter, and heart wrenching serious scenes. S;G 0 on the other hand is the struggle of the characters we love and how they rise up. It's definitely a darker tone with a very different theme that people may or may not enjoy. The anime struggles with portraying these scenes and the messy spider web plot that the VN gives us. S;G is very linear and has a solid build up and climax with a perfect resolution. S;G 0 gives us different angles of build up from multiple character point of views that all lead to a central climax. It can be messy and hard to follow, but I find it exciting when connecting all the points. The anime wasn't able to properly translate this to an anime format and had to make something entirely new with the same outcome. I prefer S;G 0 the VN more than the original. I also enjoy this anime, but I see it as a separate series. It's hard to compare when we have these weird action scenes, like you said, that weren't handled well and not really a central goal for the show, until now.

In the end, I stick to comparing VNs to VNs and try not to mix media formats. My general opinion is that I prefer S;G0 the VN over the orginal VN, but I also prefer the original anime over the 0 anime.

The thing that annoys me to no end it's age of characters. Rumi, Luka and Maho are in their 40s and they look 30 maximum. Only Daru looks his age kinda.
