people were saying its a emotional rollercoaster but i genuinely dont get it. i think its a straightforward tale

Whether it was an emotional rollercoaster or not doesn't really change whether its also a straightforward tale or not.

And what do you mean "what did the ending mean"? It was a pretty conclusive ending, They both went on with their lives?

  Theres nothing to get, there is no conclusivety to that point. It's an open ended ending.

Its a feeling that's like "ohh i guess they were happy/sad for the decisions hey made and their choices led them to this path, and it was right for them". that feeling of what we think happed to the other person or ourselves was right/preferred best in our opinion is called a ending.
And that's the reason why all peoples are not satisfied by the same ending, not all people have same opinion, right?

    honestly it felt boring for me so i gave it a 2/10 (2 is for the visuals which were decent)

The two meet each other after all the time that has passed and remember each other. And they (probably) got married or something.
The movie was generic and predictable anyway

  It's regarded as a masterpiece because not everyone is unable to understand a story unless every piece of information is fed to them. Sometimes, we normal humans do this thing called "thinking", it's really effective.

Masterpiece might be a stretch, but I don't think it's a bad movie either. It's actually pretty good. It sure did have some plot holes here & there, but I liked the whole body switch aspect and it was entertaining to see how they are using it, funny or serious. And I found it beautiful when they finally met each other at The Mountain, and when Mitsuha sees I Love You written on her hand. It's predictable and a little cheesy, but I still loved it and probably cried the same Mitsuha did.

I think, most Shinkai films as far as I know tries to tell a tale about how a relationship works where the main couple are seperated by some means, and even though, sometimes it gets a little cheesy, it still works and I genuinely feel happy when they the main couple will come together even with such odds against them.
which also might be the reason I didn't liked 5 cm per second cause, it ends on a sad note, which you might find good.

Taki didn't write 'I Love You' for some cheesy reason. That was a very smart move from him. He knows Musubi can delete the memories they have of each other. Taki and Mitsuha both struggled to remember their names for this very reason. Taki even saw the notes left by Mitsuha getting deleted in front of his eyes, like the phone was glitching out or something.
He decided to write 'I Love You' because knowing someone out there loves you, even though you don't know them, gives Mitsuha the power and courage to move forward and go confront her dad. It was made even more clear in the light novel, but I think this detail would be obvious in the anime as well, I caught on to it for sure.

It's just a love story movie with extremely good visual aspect. The ending shouldn't be confused, it's just some magical fate love type shit bringing them together again like a lots other love movies.

It's a great ending. It leaves you thinking about did they find out about each others names? Oh, do I remember you? Do you know who I am? I think we met? It leaves the thinking to the watcher about what do you think happened after they met and the amount of different endings people have in mind. As well, this anime just touched my heart and it gave me shivers while watching.

This was so, so good, until the last few minutes. It somehow left me quite unsatisfied. I wanted to know what happens after they met again. They also dragged the reunion way too long. The way they passed each other 3 times was pure pain. It's more realistic that way but it hurt the flow of the movie for me.
Very great movie but the end was a letdown for me.

  Because this movie is not about their relationship, it's about their journey, the journey to find each other. I believe that should've been evident from the trailer that this anime was never gonna be a slice-of-life-style movie about their daily lives as a couple.
  What happens after they meet? They got married. It's a happily-ever-after ending, so what do you want to know about it? They had a cameo in Shinkai's next film Tenki no Ko, where it's shown that they are married to each other.

spoiler alert: i maybe wrong in some parts cus I watched this movie a long time ago but this is basically the plot of Your Name

the two main characters forgot the names of the ones who they loved. this was because one character was removed from existence in the timeline of the other character, but the feelings towards that character was not gone. this is why the mcs say "i feel like im always searching for somebody, but donno who it is"

after X years, the two characters coincidently meets and identified each other and immediately realized whom they have been searching for all this time. And they asked eachother "May I know... Your Name?"

Nothing about the ending was "waaayy to open". They saw each other, they felt like they knew each other, and then they asked about each other's name, because that's their fate. Shinkai even gave them a cameo in his next movie, Tenki no Ko, where it's clearly shown that they are married and happy.

Tbh I don't think the endings really that open ended its kinda implied they'd get together just from the movie alone, but it'd be nice if we been told if they just developed the relationship back from scratch or if hearing each others names triggered their memories to return for good this time?

    A user asked a question about peoples take on a scene. I described my take on it. You then responded derisively about how mods should be neutral.
    I have 2 options:
    1) You're just making a nonsense comment devoid of any attachment to what it was replying to
    2) You're saying that by me answering what my take is on an anime that I am somehow "not being neutral" which would mean having an opinion and expressing that opinion to a user asking a question is not being neutral and thus mods shouldn't do this. AKA "mods shouldn't engage with media or the community".

    The only way for this comment to make sense is if you think something being an open ending or a closed ending was somehow inherently good as that is all my comment was expressing. It was expressing confusion at topic itself and then explaining what the ending was. If you interpreted me explaining that it was an open ending and thus there is nothing to get as a defense or attack of it, then that's on you

They don't remember each other. Watch the movie again with your eyes open.
The only thing they remember is the feelings they had for each other. They felt like it but they don't. They don't even remember each other's names. Will they remember each other slowly over time? I don't know, that's a plausible theory. Do they remember each other at the end? No they don't idiot. Why would they ask each other's names then?
