Personally as someone who played the game, I think the anime didn't live up to the game. I think the pacing was really bad considering they had 13 episodes to work with.
I can see the similarities between Danganronpa & Mirai Nikki, with both having a "death game" concept. So if you liked Mirai Nikki, you might like Danganronpa.
So I would say to give the anime a chance if you aren't planning on playing the game.

its alright, nothing special. I haven't played the game so i can't compare it to that.
Game adaptions are usually pretty bad. The real money is in manga and LN adaptions since the source material will usually still be ongoing while the anime is airing, therefore they both benefit from increased publicity and profits.
There are exceptions, but Danganronpa isn't one of them. But I'll tell you this much, if you enjoyed Mirai Nikki, the game will be right up your alley!
If you liked Mirai Nikki you'll probably like Danganronpa too, they have certain similarities.
Anyway I always recommend the games, they are way better.
First season was pretty good and almost made me put Danganronpa to my favorites list until that ending comes up. Goddammit, that ending is just terrible.
as most of the people here said, you should realy play the game
the anime isn't realy that bad too it's just that the games are way better(+ if you'll like the anime and would want to see more of that you'll have to play the second game anyway because this one got no anime adaptation and you'll have to play the game in order to understand Mirai-hen and Zetsubou-hen)

As said plenty of times, but im adding a bit more. The game is so much better than the anime. However, since I watched the anime before playing the game, I got really into it - and i couldnt really judge it based off the game this way.
But I do suggest you watch the first 2 episodes or so of it, If you dont like it try the game, If you cant afford to play the game just watch a youtube playthrough or something

Definitely! I watched it before playing the game and loved it. Danganronpa is about a bunch of students being trapped in a school and having to kill each other in order to escape. The only rule is that you can't be caught - if the others figure out who did it, the murderer is executed.
I think I watched Danganronpa The Animation directly after Mirai Nikki, actually. I watched the anime before playing any of the games - it was the anime that got me into the series in the first place, after all.
As I talked about in my other post the order of the anime is hard to keep up with if you haven't played the games. Danganronpa 3: Future Arc and Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc are super difficult to understand if you haven't played the games. Future Arc is a direct continuation of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (the second game) and Despair Arc is a prequel to it.
I think you definitely will like it, since it is an enjoyable anime. Amazing? Not really, but when I first watched it it was one of my favourites. If you like murders, mysteries and psychological stuff then Danganronpa is for you.
I've heard that the game is better. TBH, I watched the other Danganronpa's like the zetsubou hen and mirai hen (season 3 ish) if you like to call it. because they didnt animate the second game the story line was hard to follow.
Regardless if you forget the other animations of it.. I think Danganronpa (First Season) is good on it's own.
personally, i didn't like it but i did like a few characters from danganronpa. i thought it was pretty boring and makoto always pissed me off. you should give it a try though since you watched the future diary though! ♡(ᐢ ᴥ ᐢし)
I watched the anime before playing the game, it was a regret, you're better off watching gameplay footage since the anime's hyper-condensed
