SpiritGDJul 4, 20218 replies334 viewsSo I was thinking of starting Tokyo Ghoul but I keep hearing that the anime adaptation is bad or even horrible. What do you all suggest? Should I just read the manga or is there any portion of the anime that I should watch? Lmk

The anime isn’t bad if you don’t know the manga. :)
You can first watch the anime, then read the manga. You can enjoy both ways like that.

Overall I did enjoy Tokyo Ghoul when I first watched it, after that I read the manga and all I can enjoy of the Tokyo Ghoul anime now is the artstyle of s1 and 2.
The Tokyo Ghoul manga is very good and imo worth reading, but if you like to watch anime of manga you've read. Start with the anime, incase you drop it because you do not like the anime. It is very different from the manga, give the manga a chance even tho you dislike the anime.

I watched and read it and the manga is far better than the anime adaptation. The story is far more refined as they just left out like half the story in the anime and decided to just change the complete ending of the first show (before :re). There is really no need to watch past the first season as things only go downhill in the anime while the manga is just brilliant.

I enjoyed every season (maybe apart from s3 ep13 onwards), other than that I recommend watching the anime first then reading the manga, that way you can enjoy both since the adaption misses out a lot of important parts from the manga.
