I don't really dislike anything it's just like besides jin woo it's pretty shallow. I just don't see how it's above so many other manga/manhwa which exceed in like every category.

ok I am crazy into SL I've reread the LN about 7 times and I've reread the manwha about 14 times and I'm the first person to talk about how amazing it is. But I understand it isn't the best thing to ever exist. The story is average, and the characters aren't nearly as developed as some other top manga/manhwa. The art is beautiful of course. Honestly, SL is really just entertaining as heck. But after rereading it so many times it really is just average. But I am super happy about the attention its getting as I rate it a 10/10 (even if it truly isn't as good as I say it is) if I'm being true to myself I would prob give it a 7.8/10 (maybe?) but idc and just rate it a 10 because why not
But I totally agree with what you are saying its not bad but its not the best thing to ever exist either. I think its mainly rated to highly is because its extremely addicting and entertaining.

I'm not saying someone can't enjoy it because I view some aspects of it as average and I understand most people rate off enjoyment It just kinda blew my mind when I saw solo leveling over so many things.

Understandable, It has very good art style and has some badass moments but i don't find it great. Sometimes when things get repetitive it becomes boring but it's just my opinion. People who enjoyed reading it rate it high because they like it. I read it because of the hype and honestly i expected it to be much better.

Idk about the others but I am hyped up for each and every chapter. All of the MC's fights are amazing. So yeah, it may not have a good story of a good cast, but it does know how to hype up the readers.

I can see that, but doesn't it gets boring after a while? One of the reason I dropped it cause I felt it was getting repetitive.

It hasn't got boring for me yet. Tbh I don't even focus on the story that much, I just watch the fights while playing a battle OST in the background. And there's a fight every 5 chapters so it keeps me wanting more.

It has one of the best art, the coolest MC and fights. Should've gotten boring after a while but for some reason you can't help but enjoy every moment. It's gotten slightly better now.

I was not expecting this either bc I thought it wasn't that well know. But I sure get why it's up there and I do agree. The art is amazing the story is also pretty good characters development is also very got (not like sao anyways). And overall the main is badass I've read in two days 80 chapters bc it's so amazing. So I personally think it's amazing

it WAS very good until they skipped the thing with explaining his new abilities and such. One thing i loved about it was that it explained it all! not many anime do that, they just add ability after ability and it comes out of nowhere. Also i usually dont like it when the mc is op af but this was the first time i was fucking hyped every time he got stronger and stronger. (now its going into the more of a normal plot way and i dont know what i think about it yet)

I enjoyed JJK, but it really has become one of the most overrated anime lol. it's good, really good even but nowhere near exceptional like the ratings would have you believe

Damn wtf, I like JJK but that first season is really just exposition. The story hasn't even become that developed yet. I would agree with a rating like that if the rest has been animated because the manga is very good but nothing much really goes on in season 1.

it has a crazy good score, but I didn't end up enjoying it at all when I read it. Felt like a fairly generic power fantasy with really really good art taped over it. Is there something I'm not seeing?

i think maybe your explanation is why people like it so much. maybe? power fantasy + good art. it got super popular and appeals to a wider audience that enjoyed it for what it is. power fantasies can be fun to read sometimes

I don't think it's wrong to enjoy a power fantasy, but people describe Solo Leveling as like, peak fiction. I mean, the main character literally DOES NOT LOSE a single time until his one big L in the finale, which he almost immediately recovers from with a massive power boost. That's laughable, coming from a story that describes Sung as someone who "faces adversity" and all that.
Countless other things to complain about, like the story claiming Sung is facing the demons within himself or whatever, despite almost always being a perfect hero who stands up for the weak, but at the same time never mentioning the countless sentient monsters he's killed and how he enslaved Hwang to his will out of revenge...
I don't know. Wouldn't make this post if it was just another webtoon power fantasy series with <80% average, because like yeah, let people enjoy their power fantasies, but this one has a very strangely positive reception.

One thing which some people will not like, where others will like a lot, is how the story, the art, and the MC become darker and darker (Not in a way of cruel and gore, but in emotions and art).
Seriously, there are lots of reviews like that. Seize the day.

POWER FANTASY+CRAZYY GOOD ART+BADASS ATTITUDETo people, all they want is something to enjoy and spend time with, most SL readers are people who may have read SL as their first manhwa, heck their first comic! They don't have a broad knowledge of the tropes.
I started reading manhwas about 2 years ago and started with TOWER OF GOD thankfully. If you have read it, you must know that has an amazing story, Well developed cast, and many other interesting elements that a well-written story has + The S1 art style is dogshit compared to the Manhwa level. Due to this, I did not care much about SL and had the same opinion. Enjoyed a lot but can't see the reason for such high ratings.
Only after you read quite a number of manhwas do you realize that most of them are shit, like really. Tropes get soo common that you start hating what you liked earlier, No Originality. So, what SL provided was DOPE ASS CHARACTER DESIGN, PEAK ART, BADASS ATTITUDE, A OVERPOWERED MC-
Enough to please almost all readers who are getting into manhwa.(same thing can be said on why DemonSlayer is popular ASF)

ehh imo i think the basis premise worked towards its advantage and SL fully leaned on that aspect of the story , thats why everything went downhill when they started going more indepth towards the ending and end up rushing it
