It's fucking long. Like, walls of text about fucking nothing sometimes. It's a good VN don't get me wrong, but if you're not big into VNs like I am (ADHD brain), it's much more worth it to watch the anime. You'll spend 10 times the hours on the VN instead of the anime.
But for the direct answer, yeah you can read it instead of the anime.
