No, Punpun is a terrible character. He didnt deserve the ending. Dissapointed af wit the manga im not even gon lie. Biggest dissapoinment read so far in my life

That was the author intention I think. Oyasumi Punpun (and life in general) wasn't a manga about karma. Punpun had done some questionable things morally speaking but as far as we know he isn't less an human than anyone. In the end he managed to fix himself and find some happiness and a path in his life. There is no point arguing if he deserve it or not, he managed to get where he is by himself and by the people who surrounded him and loved him (Hi Nanjou Sachi).

  "some questionable things" doesnt cut it. Punpun was a character full of jealousy, violence, sex all his life. He never tries to improve himself and only created problems by himself. I know that is what the manga intended as they took couple hits towards themselves like the dialogue where Sachi manga got rejected bcos its basically punpun. But just because smth is intentional, doesnt make it less bad imo. I didnt feel any sympathy towards Punpun at all and its gon stay that way forever, the ending would have been perfect if he died and forgotten.

honestly i too dont really like punpun and dont think his past traumatic life experiences can be used as an excuse for the person he became, he could´ve always changed,, his mind was really fucked up and he did some senseless things but despite all that it really did end up better than what i thought the ending would be for him, which in my opinion makes it a great manga

Yeah I get your point and I’m no more compassionate than you about him, it's just that "deserving" idea that was bothering me so I wanted to draw your attention to the intentions of the author who would have been ruined in my opinion precisely if Punpun were dead.
What would his death mean to the story ? It's kinda pointless and would only give a brief satisfaction toward readers like us who couldn't give a fuck about him anymore. We can see that the author thought about it when Punpun desperately sticks a knife in his eye : Punpun thought it was the end for him (he was supposedly alone) and was okay about that but he was finally saved (again) by Sachi.
About the fact that he never tried to improve, I think you’re wrong, you even mentioned the moment in the story when he was trying really hard (Sachi's manga "arc) but yeah I get your feeling.

Idk bout you but his death would have compensate from what he did to Aiko and the people around him, Punpun literally made some of their lives "worse" if u get me. And the ways Punpun tried to improve himself was literally so half assed from my POV. I loved characters like Seki a lot more who definitely suffered a lot more than Punpun in his life but no matter what, man never really let life keep him down for a long time unlike Punpun and yes, that ending where he wanted to kill himself was perfect... until Sachi came lmao, I rlly did not like that whatsoever. You are right, i rlly did not give a fuck bout him since like chapter 70 or so, would have been better dead imo.

    Thats fine if u think that way, man should have died. I just rlly dislike that he got to live after all he did, he does not deserve the second chance to me
