Why is Made in Abyss rated so highly?
UserttyMar 3, 202127 replies996 viewsI want to get into Made in Abyss but the character designs and first episode looks like a child's show. I am restarting my quest to finish the series but can someone tell my why its so popular? No spoilers please. My guess is that the world building is great.
So guys I watched the tv show and the movie sequel and although I usually hate annoying kid mcs I thought it wasn't done that bad for made in abyss, I really liked the world and not the characters, I think movie was better than the tv show for me since the pacing for the tv show was pretty slow at times. Overall unique and interesting.

It could look childish, but it's not like that.
Yeah, world building is great and so interesting, but the real thing is the contrast between the style and the story.

I was gonna say that the decisions that the main characters have to make are far deeper and heavier than what most people deal with.
I found it super interesting to follow their adventure. The fascinating setting, committed MC, capable partner, and general mystery makes for a good story. There was way more than just danger in store for them, from the environment and creatures. The BGM brought life/ambiance out of the setting.

If anytthing, it could be said that it's very similar to Now and Then, Here and There in terms of being bleak. Both series are really fantastic though.

Well for one, you've already fallen into its trap lol. Secondly, even if it was a children's show, that shouldn't mean it can't be a masterpiece or rated very highly. Older Disney movies are a prime example of depth and subtlety being hidden in "children's cartoons". Hell, you could call some shonen anime children's shows and they are also rated very highly.
