Thoughts on the end of a series [Spoilers]

i was very frustrated with the ending because the issue is not resolved.
yui likes hiki but he is practically dating yuki, is the anime suggesting she is their 3rd wheel never moving on or finding mutual love of her own? will she be a 2nd girlfriend?
doesnt hiki like her too? wasnt dating either of them not his wish but a strong bond was? this animes issues are not resolved. very frustrating

I don’t think yui is ever going to be a second girlfriend, but I know what you mean. I wish Yui didn’t have to be left hanging like that. I believe that Hikki’s desire to have a strong bond with both girls is what pushed him to start dating Yuki. He knows that Yui is the type who will easily be able to keep a friendship going, as demonstrated by the ending when she approached Yuki with her request for the service club. On the other hand Hikki knows he needs to start dating Yuki in order to maintain a relationship with her, as their loner personality would make them drift apart if they didn’t have a reason to be together. Still Yui definitely gets the short end of the stick.

I believe he had strong feelings for both girls honestly and I think what I said is just a possibility as to how he decided Yuki over Yui

The first season just felt so right but the second one to me was just meh. Then the third one just kinda killed my hype but I did enjoy when Yuki said "I love you". I lowkey wish the relationship with the teacher was more established (domestic girlfriend vibes) and I wish we got more with Iroha. Yui just got legit dumped and never heard from again. I wish they would make a season 4 which could clear up anything and everything. I WANT MORE KOMACHI

Totally agree, I only fondly remember the 2nd season for Iroha scenes, personally my shipping was first Iroha, Teacher, Yui, and then Yuki. I don't have any fond memories of Yuki in the first season in her relationship with Hikki, Yui was far stronger a likeable candidate for me. Not to say Yuki didn't become far more likeable, because I thought it made sense narratively but all the same, ah the woes of multi heroine romcoms

I haven't watched the last episode yet, so keep that in mind. That said, I really enjoyed the first two seasons, but the third and final season quickly became a bummer for me. It felt like they were just dragging their feet the whole time, taking forever to get to the end we all knew was coming. Instead of there being any fight, it just seemed like everyone had given up to the fact that it was always going to be Hachiman and Yukino, leaving us with Yui being basically miserable the whole time, which wasn't fun to watch; I thought maybe she'd have her moment, but she never really did. I feel like the final season would have worked better as a final movie instead, cutting out a lot of unneeded fat, but regardless, the way things played out in this final season...it kind of makes me not want to rewatch any of the series ever again and that's probably the biggest bummer of them all.

To all the people yelling about the ending, apparently there is a sequel that is releasing on their third year. i don’t really know much, but there’s that.

apparently there are 3 more volumes (anime ends at 14-anilist lists 17 volumes total) but i cant find the last 3 anywhere and they arnt even on the wiki so i guess its releasing but anilist says its finished

  the sequel is called oregairu shin or something like that. it’s 17 volumes on anilist bc it includes the .5 volumes as written on the description on anilist.

    It's not a sequel per se but an after story that comes with the purchase of the BDs.

Unless there's an OVA or something to that effect anime wise then this was the ending of this series. I probably won't read the LN and personally I think it's always fair to take each medium as they are, which should be full story works, no half baked jobs or fluff for source content.

I am glad that Hachiman chose only one girl to go with. While watching, I feared that the show would want to come to some sort of compromise where fans of both Yui and Yuki are happy and I would have hated that. Fortunately Hatchiman manned up and chose only one in the end, which I believe is the right thing to do.

OreGairu has been one of my favorite titles since I started watching anime. It's funny, it's sad, it has amazing characters and little details. I've read the "11 original volumes" somewhere down the line and fell in love with it even more. I felt that the adaptation did original source justice. Sure, they skipped some content, but that's to be expected. As for the manga version - I didn't care much, rewatching and noticing more and more small details was a lot more enjoyable for me for some reason.

I've read the last three volumes as soon as they were fan-translated and also enjoyed them a lot. I kinda hoped for a loner ending, but I'm not disappointed with how things turned out at all. The novel had so many wonderful moments full of emotions. And the third season just feels... hollow. I dunno, is there something wrong with me? I mean yeah, they skipped some source material, but not a lot of it as far as I can remember. The graduation scene had me crying when I was reading, but the adaptation is just like "whatever man". The "batting cages with Hiratsuka-sensei"? How could they ruin this scene that much? The third season was just a usual boring romcom for me.

And what's with the "sequel"? Oh man, I'm not looking forward to this. This story had it's ending. Everyone wants more money, I get it. Some people yearn for the continuation. But... can we not defile this story further? This story about emotions and actions of real-enough people? Can we just stop now, when the characters have found their place in the world?..

  Well, she lost. It's inevitable when there's a relationship triangle - someone will lose and it's alright. Unless, of course, it's a harem show, which OreGairu isn't supposed to be (kinda).
  I mean yeah, in the sequel she could either deal with it (which is the current situation) or find someone else (which is the situation fans will be ultra-salty about). Or MC could break up with Yukino and get on with Yui, and that's just "let's not". So yeah, IMO she also had her resolution in this ending.

    the oregairu shin ln basically has it be a harem where both are flirting its def a case of having the cake, eating it too.
    imo incredibly disappointed he might as well release a cannon hentai where they just date each other

One anime I actually wish could go on forever. Love the characters, atmosphere, and story. The ending was ok. At least
Yui still wants to be friends even though she lost. That shows maturity. Still wish they would continue. Probably not anything to continue about though.
