Sumi Ashida

An impoverished girl who lives with her older brother Eisuke and the various children he's taken in. She marries Souichirou as a way to help pay off her brother's debts and provide for her adoptive siblings. She is very caring, and she is skilled when it comes to cooking and cleaning. She is a shogi prodigy, though she has never been to school and does not know how to read or write. Due to her upbringing, she has a hard time adapting to life in high society. She has a negative reaction to the presence of roses and their scent, due to a traumatic incident in her past.

She is actually Aiko, the youngest daughter of the Ijuuin family, who was kidnapped as a baby. Eisuke found her in a rose garden and raised her as his sister.
